Kickapoo announcements Dec. 16 - 20, 2024

Hello, Kickapoo families,

Happy final week of 1st semester and 2024! It is vital students be present all week in order to prep for final exams and finish 2nd quarter/1st semester strong!

* Announcements - I send these announcements via Connect 5 text & email and Canvas inbox each weekend during the course of the school year. These announcements include several important items, however, they are not all inclusive. Please remember to check our social media and website for the most up to date information about clubs, athletics, and other important announcements.

* Student Grades - eSchool Home Access Center is the official gradebook. You can login here to check student grades. After logging in click Classes to see the most up to date grades entered during the quarter. 

* D & F Phone Calls - I make phone calls home for students with a D and/or F in any of their classes each Tuesday after school. These phone calls began again on Tuesday, Nov. 12th and will continue each Tuesday through the end of the semester. These grades come from a report ran at 6:30 a.m. each Tuesday morning.

* FREE Tutoring available every day after school in the Kickapoo library from 3:25 - 4:25. Students will check in and must stay the full time unless a parent or guardian signs them out.

* Winter Spirit Days - Dec. 16 - 20
* Final Exams - ALL final exams are on Friday, Dec. 20th. NO early Finals are given. Any exceptions must be approved by Mrs. Helfrecht (assistant principal) in advance and she will communicate with teachers if approved. Thank you.
* SPS High School Final Exam Exemption Requirements. 
Students are eligible for finals exemption by meeting the following criteria:
  • 90% overall attendance (school-sponsored activities do not count as absences) per semester
  • Received no ISS or OSS for the semester
  • Passing the class with an 80% or greater prior to the final exam
  • Exempt students may take the final to improve their grade in a class; in this case, the final exam grade cannot hurt the student’s overall grade
  • Required to attend class during the final exam block and complete optional enrichment tasks provided 
  • Dual credit, AP, IB, and virtual classes are not eligible for final exemptions


* NO School for students Dec. 21 - Jan. 5. Students return on Monday, Jan. 6.
* CANVAS HELP - Need help accessing and checking online learning with your student? Click here for a list of resources from SPS. You can also click here for a guide for “how-to” items for parents. Please be sure to reach out with questions as we navigate online learning.
* Student Attendance for Week 16 - Our yearly goal is 95%.


* Reminders:

  • Any students needing WiFi can request a Kajeet hotspot through our library.
  • Kickapoo will open our doors at 7:40 a.m. and first block begins at 8:10 a.m. every day Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday. 
  • Wednesday is late start for students so staff may participate in professional learning. Classes begin at 8:40 a.m. ALL BUSSES WILL RUN AT NORMAL TIMES.
  • Classes end at 3:10 p.m. every day.
  • All students should leave school/campus by 3:45 p.m. unless directly supervised by a teacher, coach, or sponsor.
  • Students should take home Chromebooks every day, charge them each night, & bring them to school each day.
  • Deliveries to school - Parents/guardians may deliver food and other items to school. We ask that you label and leave them on the table. Please communicate with your student to let them know items have been dropped off for them as we do not contact them. 
  • NO FOOD, DRINK, or other DELIVERIES FROM OUTSIDE VENDORS. Thank you! 
  • ID badges and dress code - ALL students must have an ID every day. Follow all dress code expectations. Cover ALL B's!

This year students will earn a Test grade for their performance as we will receive the results back before the end of the semester. Students will test in their classroom during the block they have the class on the dates below.

You will have the option of a "generic KHS senior" sign and/or a customized one with "What's Next" and a picture of your senior. See store link above for examples.
This is a fundraiser, and any proceeds raised over the cost of the signs will go to support Senior Send Off 2025. The portal will be open now through Dec. 6th.

* Senior Send Off (formerly Project Graduation) - Senior Send Off Class of 2025 first parent meeting will be held Tuesday, November 19th from 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. in the KHS library.

* Senior YARD SIGN Fundraisers are back! They are being sold through our new senior store KHS Senior Store: Yard Signs & Swag Senior Store 2025 Yard Signs & Swag will open on Friday, Nov. 15 and close on Dec. 6 in order to get items returned before Winter break. We will open the store again in late February for another round of senior sign sales.
You will have the option of a "generic KHS senior" sign for $25 and/or a customized one with "What's Next" and a picture of your senior. See store link above for examples.
This is a fundraiser, and any proceeds raised over the cost of the signs will 100% go to support Senior Send Off 2025 (SSO25). The portal will be open 11/15 through 12/6. They should be back by 12/20/24.

* Reflections Contest - Reflections is a National PTA program that encourages students to tap into their inner creativity and express themselves through the arts. This year's theme is "Accepting Imperfection" and Kickapoo students are invited to submit original artwork in any of the following categories: Literature, Visual Arts, Film Production, Photography, Music Composition, and Dance Choreography. The top 3 winners in each category will win awards and advance to city and state. Rules and guidelines can be found here and submissions are due online by Friday, November 15. Enter today!

* End of Course Exams (EOC's) - When students take Algebra I, Algebra II (select students), Biology, English II, and Government they must take an EOC exam. This year students will earn a Test grade for their performance as we will receive the results back before the end of the semester. Students will test in their classroom during the block they have the class on the dates below.

  • Wednesday is late start for students so staff may participate in professional learning. Classes begin at 8:40 a.m. ALL BUSSES WILL RUN AT NORMAL TIMES.
  • Classes end at 3:10 p.m. every day.
  • All students should leave school/campus by 3:45 p.m. unless directly supervised by a teacher, coach, or sponsor.
  • Students should take home Chromebooks every day and charge them each night.
  • Deliveries to school - Parents/guardians may deliver food and other items to school. We ask that you label and leave them on the table. Please communicate with your student to let them know items have been dropped off for them as we do not contact them. 
  • NO FOOD, DRINK, or other DELIVERIES FROM OUTSIDE VENDORS. Thank you! 
  • ID badges and dress code - ALL students must have an ID every day. Follow all dress code expectations. Cover ALL B's!

Hello, Kickapoo families,

* Cap & Gown orders due Thursday, Nov. 7th - Jostens came to give Seniors information about Cap and Gown two weeks ago and each student should have a packet. All ordering can be done online at the link below. Cap and Gown package with Cap and Gown and tassel is $18. There are other packages as well, but this is all that is required. Order Deadline is November 7th.

* Title VI Indian Education Grant Eligibility Form - Springfield Public Schools receives the Title VI Indian Education Formula Grant Program, which is used to offer additional educational services for eligible Native American and Alaskan Native students. We have used the grant to provide tutoring, college prep materials, resources to support cultural awareness, and additional counseling support to students.

If you feel your child or children are eligible for this grant (have tribal membership themselves, or have a parent/grandparent with tribal membership), please complete this Title VI application form and return it to the school office. If you would like a paper copy of the form, they are also available in the school office.
