Kickapoo announcements Feb. 24 - 28, 2025

Hello Kickapoo families,

What a week and now we welcome spring! Speaking of spring, we only have 14 school days left in third quarter.

Our custodial and grounds crews did an amazing job clearing our sidewalks, entryways, and parking lots this week. However, due to the amount of snow there are still large piles of snow all around campus. While they will begin to melt this also means the runoff will refreeze if we dip below freezing overnight. Please be aware and safe driving and walking in these conditions. Thank you!

A reminder our students began AMI days and were given daily assignments in Canvas each day this week. Any student who did not complete and submit the assignment will be marked absent for that class. Students still have time to complete these assignments this weekend.

* Announcements - I send these announcements via Connect 5 text & email and Canvas inbox each weekend during the course of the school year. These announcements include several important items, however, they are not all inclusive. Last semester, we gave away two pairs of AirPods, three $100 gift cards, a Stanley cup, and five $25 gift cards.

We wear them on the first day and take a big picture on the football field. It is a great way to start off the year. That being said we could not do this without our amazing sponsors. If you have a business and would like to sponsor it is a great way to advertise. We have over 2000 staff and students and they wear the shirts for years to come. The minimum to sponsor is $500 and that gets you a smaller logo. Larger sponsorship levels are $1000 and $2000. Please reach out to Amy Moran at amoran@spsmail.org if you are interested. Thank you for your support!

* Chief Bucks - Chief Bucks are a way for teachers to recognize and reward students for exceptional behavior based on the PBIS Matrix in our classrooms and around the building. This is intended to celebrate individual students who stand out by doing the right things on a regular basis. For example, a student who wears their ID every day for 2 weeks, a student who picks up trash in the commons before school, or a student who lets you know that vandalism has taken place in the restroom.

Students will write their name on the Chief Buck and keep it until the end of the quarter. At that time, they can drop their Chief Bucks into designated buckets for a chance to win amazing prizes. Last semester, we gave away two pairs of AirPods, three $100 gift cards, a Stanley cup, and five $25 gift cards.

We are also going to be offering weekly opportunities for students to cash in Chief Bucks for smaller items such as, but not limited to, Taco Bell & Little Caesars certificates, snacks, drinks, etc. . .

* Love SPS, Love Kickapoo - Show the love for Kickapoo during the Love SPS campaign February 1st – 14th. Your gift will help support our school through Foundation for Springfield Public Schools programs and initiatives like the Back To School grant program. This program allows our teachers to dream big and provide extra opportunity for our students. Don’t forget to designate for Kickapoo HS!
At the heart of this campaign we believe that every gift no matter how big or how small makes a difference.
