Below are several new items for families and students. Thank you for reading closely.

* Cell phone & Electronic Device Reminder - 
NO Electronic Devices per Senate Bill 68 - To minimize distractions, enhance student engagement and comply with new state law outlined in Senate Bill 68, SPS students will not be permitted to use Personal Electronic Devices during the school day. Beginning during the 2025-2026 school year, Personal Electronic Devices MUST be turned off, stored in backpacks, and remain out of sight for the entirety of the school day.
What is defined as a Personal Device?
Cell phones, tablets, personal computers gaming devices, headphones/earbuds and any other electronic device (including watches) that can be used for communication, entertainment or accessing the internet.
How will the policy be enforced on your child’s campus?
Students who violate policy will be asked to turn in
their phone and/or other devices to the office. Additional discipline will be assigned as outlined in the Student Handbook: Inappropriate Cell Phone Usage. Students who refuse to turn in their device may face further disciplinary action. Continued violation of policy could result in loss of Personal Electronic Devices while on the school campus.
* Parent Pick Up - Do NOT park at Birch Pointe OR any of our local businesses for afternoon pickup. You are taking their customer and patients parking spots. You may be fined or towed. Thank you!

KHS 25 - 26 Bell Schedule (W = Wednesday)
* Wednesday Late Start - Once students arrive on campus they are NOT to leave school property. Any students leaving school are subject to school discipline.
* Student Parking Permits - We have 35 spots remaining for purchase. Go to this link & see Mrs. Liston in the financial office to secure your spot on campus.
* Park in your assigned parking spot. IF someone parks in your spot – DO NOT park in another numbered spot, (that becomes a domino effect) but park in a visitor spot. Students will then report the issue by filling out the sheet in the attendance office (door 18). Students must have an SPS parking decal and KHS hang tag to park on campus.
* IF you have NOT purchased a permit you may NOT park on campus. 
NO decal? Park on Jefferson Avenue in front of the baseball/practice field. 
NO Decal? Do NOT park in STAFF, VISITOR, or HANDICAPPED SPOTS at KHS. 
NO decal? Do NOT park at Gillenwater tennis courts, Birch Pointe across the street OR any of our local businesses. You may be fined or towed.

* Class of 2026 Kickapoo Graduation will be Saturday, May 16, 2026 at 7 p.m. at Great Southern Bank Arena
* Graduation Cap & Gown - A representative from Jostens visited on Thursday and seniors  should have received a packet. All ordering can be done online at this link. Cap and Gown package with Cap and Gown and tassel is $18. There are other packages as well, but all that is required is the $18 package. Order Deadline is Thursday, Nov. 6th.

* FREE Tutoring - Is available from 3:25 - 4:25 p.m. in our library each day we are in session. 
* Grades - The most current grades can be viewed in Home Access Center at this link where you will login. Then follow this path - Click the Classes button at the top of the screen. Then click the Classwork tab for the current grades.
* 1st Quarter Grades are posted to the Report Card. Follow the link above and Click Grades and then the Report Card tab.
* FREE ACT practice materials - To support students in preparing for the ACT, the following helpful resources are available: Learning Express ACT Prep materials can be found in Canvas. Students should navigate to the “Virtual Library,” then select the “Research Center” and click on the “Learning Express Hub.” These resources include full-length practice tests and other study tools.
A paper-based Preparing for the ACT guide is also available directly from ACT. This includes a complete practice test and can be a great option for students who prefer printed practice materials.
* FREE ACT exam - All Kickapoo juniors (Class of 2027) will take the real ACT the morning of Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026. More information to come.
* 2025 - 2026 District Calendar 
* NO School for students Monday, Nov. 3 & Tuesday, Nov. 4.
Last Day of school is May 22, 2026.
* Flu Vaccines for Students - SPS will not be able to provide flu vaccines to students during the school day this year. Due to new regulations, school staff are no longer authorized to administer the vaccines. If you would like your child to receive the vaccine, several options are available. You may contact your family physician or a retail pharmacy. The Springfield-Greene County Health Department also offers the vaccine to eligible children. Cox Health CARE Mobile will also offer vaccines Nov. 3 - 4 on a first-come, first-served basis. Read more.
* SPS U for all of Springfield Public Schools families is being held at Kickapoo on Tuesday, Nov. 11th. The topic include online safety and mental health. See below and click the link for more information and to register for the event.


























* SPS High School Attendance Requirement for Dances. In order to attend a SPS dance students must meet the following requirements:
90% overall attendance (school-sponsored activities do not count as absences) by a determined date prior to the dance set by the high school site administration. 
Our next dance is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 20th.
Students must have 90% or better attendance by end of day Friday, Feb. 13th.
Must be in attendance the entire school day the day of the dance.
Must not be serving ISS or OSS on the day of the dance.
Major discipline infractions may result in non-admittance to the school dance.
Pay ALL fines & fees in Financial office PRIOR to purchasing your dance ticket.
* SPS High School Final Exam Exemption Requirements. Students are eligible for finals exemption by meeting the following criteria:
90% overall attendance (school-sponsored activities do not count as absences) per semester.
Received no ISS or OSS for the semester.
Passing the class with an 80% or greater prior to the final exam.
Exempt students may take the final to improve their grade in a class; in this case, the final grade cannot hurt the student’s overall grade.
Required to attend class during the final exam block and complete optional enrichment tasks provided.
Dual credit, AP, IB, and virtual classes are not eligible for final exemptions.
* Spirit Days - Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday.
NO masks, face coverings, face paint/makeup, or weapons allowed. Costumes must also be school dress code appropriate. Thank you!
* Student Attendance - Our yearly goal is 95% & we were achieving this goal until two weeks ago. With a couple of great weeks we can get back above 95%! Thank you for being in class, on time, everyday!

  • Kickapoo will open our doors at 7:40 a.m. and first block begins at 8:10 a.m. every day Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday.
  • Wednesday is late start for students so staff may participate in professional learning. Classes begin at 8:40 a.m. ALL BUSSES WILL RUN AT NORMAL TIMES.
  • Classes end at 3:10 p.m. every day.
  • All students should leave school/campus by 3:25 p.m. unless directly supervised by a teacher, coach, or sponsor.
  • Students should take home Chromebooks every day and charge them each night.
  • Deliveries to school - Parents/guardians may deliver food and other items to school. We ask that you label and leave them on the table. Please communicate with your student to let them know items have been dropped off for them as we do not contact them.
  • NO FOOD or DRINK DELIVERIES FROM OUTSIDE VENDORS. Thank you!
  • Dress code - Follow all dress code expectations. Cover ALL B's!

* FREE PRACTICE ACT for Juniors – this Tuesday, Oct. 21. We’re excited to offer a free Practice ACT for all juniors on Tuesday, Oct. 21, from 8 AM to approximately 12:30 PM in the main gym. This opportunity helps students build confidence and familiarity with the ACT format while giving teachers insight into areas for academic support. Please remind your student to bring a fully charged Chromebook and their school ID. Students will report directly to the gym upon arrival. Thank you for partnering with us to support college and career readiness!
* Class of 2026 FAFSA Frenzy - Tuesday, Oct. 21 from 5:30 - 7 p.m. in the Kickapoo commons. Have questions or need help completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)? Attend this event for support from local experts.
You MUST create an FAFSA account for each contributor (student & guardian). Preferably before FAFSA Frenzy.

You will need your:
  • First and last name (exactly as it appears on your SSN card)
  • Date of birth
  • Social Security Number

  • Cannot be shared to create more than one FSA ID
  • Students - do NOT use your school email address

Complete the verification steps (email and phone) so that your account is active.
You will use the FSA ID every year you complete the FAFSA so create a memorable username and password or store them in a secure location.
Why do I need to do the FAFSA?
(It is the FREE Application for Federal Student Aid) It is required for the A+ scholarship program and to qualify for federal aid like the Pell Grant, student loans, and certain scholarships)
* School Picture MAKE UP Day - Thursday, Oct. 23. All students are encouraged to have a picture taken as they will be in the yearbook. You are not required to purchase the photos.

We have made it to the final week of Quarter 1! A reminder students earn credits toward graduation each quarter.

Current 9th graders can earn them from this quarter (1st quarter) to use during 2nd quarter.

  • NO FOOD or DRINK DELIVERIES FROM OUTSIDE VENDORS. Thank you!
  • Dress code - Follow all dress code expectations. Cover ALL B's!

* College & Career Fair - Students & Parents: Please plan to attend the annual SPS College & Career Fair being held Tuesday, Oct. 7 from 5 - 7 p.m. at Central High School. Representatives from more than 50 colleges and universities, trade and technical schools, the military and financial aid organizations will be present to assist students & parents with the important decision of selecting a post-secondary educational opportunity. Students will also be eligible to win a Chromebook. More information, including a list of exhibitors, can be found on the district website at sps.org. Hope to see you there.
* Parent Teacher Conferences - Will be held this Thursday, Oct. 9 from 3:30 - 7 p.m. Call this week to schedule. See image below for details.
* FAFSA help - Families with seniors in the Class of 2026, do you need help setting up your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) ID or account? KHS counselors will be available in the Kickapoo commons from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. Thursday during parent teacher conferences.
* School Picture MAKE UP Day - Thursday, Oct. 23. All students are encouraged to have a picture taken as they will be in the yearbook. You are not required to purchase the photos. 
* Ordering School Pictures - If you would like to purchase photos from our Sept. 16 picture day see the images below for those steps.
* Yearbooks are on sale now at Jostens.com and are $45 each. Price will increase to $50 soon.
* Parent Pick Up - Do NOT park at Birch Pointe OR any of our local businesses for afternoon pickup. You are taking their customer and patients parking spots. You may be fined or towed. Thank you!
* Visiting KHS during school hours? - Parents, guardians, and guests if you plan to visit Kickapoo during school hours you are required to check in via Hall Pass. Hall Pass is the district’s secure visitor management system and it helps ensure the safety of our students and staff by screening, tracking, and managing all visitors who enter our buildings.  Who uses Hall Pass? All Visitors including employees, parents/guardians, volunteers, substitutes. You must have a government issued ID to check in. Thank you.

* Wednesday Late Start - Once students arrive on campus they are NOT to leave school property. Any students leaving school are subject to school discipline.
* Student Parking Permits - We have 40 spots remaining for purchase. Go to this link & see Mrs. Liston in the financial office to secure your spot on campus.
* Park in your assigned parking spot. IF someone parks in your spot – DO NOT park in another numbered spot, (that becomes a domino effect) but park in a visitor spot. Students will then report the issue by filling out the sheet in the attendance office (door 18). Students must have an SPS parking decal and KHS hang tag to park on campus.
* IF you have NOT purchased a permit you may NOT park on campus. 
NO decal? Park on Jefferson Avenue in front of the baseball/practice field. 
NO Decal? Do NOT park in STAFF, VISITOR, or HANDICAPPED SPOTS at KHS. 
NO decal? Do NOT park at Gillenwater tennis courts, Birch Pointe across the street OR any of our local businesses. You may be fined or towed.

* FREE Tutoring - Is available from 3:25 - 4:25 p.m. in our library each day we are in session. 
* Grades - The most current grades can be viewed in Home Access Center at this link where you will login. Then follow this path - Click the Classes button at the top of the screen. Then click the Classwork tab for the current grades.
* D & F phone calls - If you have a D or F in any classes you will receive a phone call from Dr. Powers on Tuesday evening. If you have questions or concerns please contact your teachers and/or counselors. Thank you.
* FREE ACT practice materials - To support students in preparing for the ACT, the following helpful resources are available:
Learning Express ACT Prep materials can be found in Canvas. Students should navigate to the “Virtual Library,” then select the “Research Center” and click on the “Learning Express Hub.” These resources include full-length practice tests and other study tools.
A paper-based Preparing for the ACT guide is also available directly from ACT. This includes a complete practice test and can be a great option for students who prefer printed practice materials.
* FREE ACT exam - All Kickapoo juniors (Class of 2027) will take the ACT the morning of Tuesday, February 24th.
* Thanksgiving Basket for Families in Need - It’s that time of the year to look forward to blessing families in our community with a Thanksgiving basket! Park Crest Baptist Church has been sponsoring this event for more than 10 years and we will be able to help families with a complete meal again this year!

* SPS High School Attendance Requirement for Dances. In order to attend a SPS dance students must meet the following requirements:
90% overall attendance (school-sponsored activities do not count as absences) by a determined date prior to the dance set by the high school site administration. 
Our next dance is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 20th.
Students must have 90% or better attendance by end of day Friday, Feb. 13th.
Must be in attendance the entire school day the day of the dance.
Must not be serving ISS or OSS on the day of the dance.
Major discipline infractions may result in non-admittance to the school dance.
Pay ALL fines & fees in Financial office PRIOR to purchasing your dance ticket.
* SPS High School Final Exam Exemption Requirements. Students are eligible for finals exemption by meeting the following criteria:
90% overall attendance (school-sponsored activities do not count as absences) per semester.
Received no ISS or OSS for the semester.
Passing the class with an 80% or greater prior to the final exam.
Exempt students may take the final to improve their grade in a class; in this case, the final grade cannot hurt the student’s overall grade.
Required to attend class during the final exam block and complete optional enrichment tasks provided.
Dual credit, AP, IB, and virtual classes are not eligible for final exemptions.
* Student Attendance - Our yearly goal is 95% and for the second week in a row three of the four classes achieved this goal! Thank you for being in class, on time, everyday!
