Hello Cherokee Families,
What a great week we had last week. On Wednesday we deployed 800 Chromebooks in 2 hours!! Here is a video highlighting the day.
I’ve shared info regarding IGNiTE a few times this year. Below are the forms sent home prior to last week.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions, clarifications, or concerns at any time.
Here are a few updates and reminders for you:
1. Progress reports - were sent home Friday. This is for the first three weeks of 2nd quarter. Please sign and return or email/call teachers to let them know you have reviewed. Questions about grades? Contact teachers as soon as possible.
2. Daily Announcement and website – Remember you can stay closely connected with these listed events and even more each day by visiting our website HERE. Our Daily Announcements are updated Monday – Friday.
3. Veteran’s Day - We have an Honor Wall at Cherokee and we’d like to have pictures of our students relatives. Please submit pictures with the person's name, rank, branch, and war/conflict. Also include the student's name so we can return the pictures to the owners. These may be turned into social studies teachers.
Also, we are hosting our annual Veteran’s Day assembly on Wednesday, Nov. 11 from 8 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. in the gym. (Please sign in the main office.) We would love to have our local veterans in attendance to hear our 8th grade band, orchestra, and choir perform patriotic songs as we honor their service to our country.
4. More clubs/ways to get involved - Science Olympiad and Color Guard are two of the most recent. However, see our Daily Announcements above for a complete list of the many activities Cherokee offers. We truly have something for everyone!
5. Transitional Transfers - Current 5th & 8th grade student families - if you desire for your child to attend a middle or high school other than the school that serves your address, a transitional transfer request form must be completed. The window to complete this is from 8 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 2nd through Friday, Dec. 4th at 4 p.m. You can find the form on the Cherokee website or HERE. Please let me know if you have any questions.
6. 8th grade parents - Want to learn more about Kickappo U? This article was in the N-L last week and Cherokee is hosting a meeting on Monday, Nov. 23rd from 5 - 6 p.m. in the cafeteria. Representatives from Kickapoo will explain how to apply and what Kickapoo U can offer.
7. Bell ringing for Salvation Army - Several of our 8th grade NJHS (National Junior Honor Society) and Student Council members will be bell ringing Saturday, Nov. 14th at Hyvee on Battlefield Road from 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. If you are in the area please support if you can. Thanks!
8. We have an amazing team here at Cherokee. Thank you all the families who submitted a recognition this year! You have no idea how much this means to our teachers and staff.
You can complete an Employee Recognition Form here (the link is functioning again) to show them your appreciation. No recognition is too small. Thank you for taking the time to recognize and celebrate our staff!
Please don’t hesitate to contact us at any time.
Have a great week and as always #GoIndians
