Hello, Kickapoo families,

Happy New Year and happy second semester! It is an opportunity for new beginnings and a fresh start. We look forward to seeing all of our students back on Monday, Jan. 6th. Go Chiefs!

Reminder, with colder temperatures outside, that also means it will be colder inside many parts of the building. As always, wear layers, and be safe during the winter months in the parking lots and on the sidewalks!

* Winter Weather & AMI Days - Dear SPS Parent or Guardian:
In response to new state legislation, Springfield Public Schools will utilize an Alternative Method of Instruction (AMI) plan on days that school is canceled due to inclement weather or any other emergency this year. Utilizing AMI will allow student learning to continue from home and reduce the number of make-up days required.

The first three inclement weather days this year will be treated as a typical cancellation and students will not participate in any learning activities. SPS will implement AMI days for K-12 students on the fourth day school is canceled. Please note: AMI days for pre-kindergarten students will start on the second day school is canceled.

On AMI days, students in grades PreK through 8 will complete assignments provided in a packet of learning resources, which will be sent home with students this week. Students in grades 9-12 will log into Canvas, where teachers will post learning expectations and assignments for the day. For students participating in Launch Virtual Learning courses, asynchronous modules will be available in Canvas. Students should log in to their courses for information on assignments to be completed. There will be no live instruction.

Students are required to complete the assigned work and return it to their teacher the next day or they will be counted absent on the AMI day.

When a decision is made to cancel school, parents will receive an email and phone call with information about how to proceed for the day. Information will also be posted on the SPS website and social media channels. To ensure you receive these notifications, please make sure you have provided current contact information and that you are familiar with the district's communications tools and protocols, which are outlined at //www.sps.org/communicationtools.

More details about AMI days, including links to student learning packets, are also available at //www.sps.org/AMI.

When the packet of learning resources is sent home with your child the week of Dec. 16, please store the materials somewhere in your home so they will be readily accessible when they are needed.
If you have additional questions about AMI days, please contact your child's principal or teacher.
* Parent Teacher Conferences - Second semester Parent Teacher conferences will be held on Thursday, Feb. 13th from 3:30 - 7 p.m.
