Kickapoo announcements Sept. 2 - 5, 2025

Hello Kickapoo families,

We hope you have had a wonderful weekend and enjoy the Labor Day holiday. We look forward to seeing all of our students on Tuesday at 8:10 a.m.

I send these announcements via Connect 5 text message & email and Canvas inbox each weekend during the course of the school year. These announcements include several important items, but they are not all inclusive. Please remember to check our social media and website for the most up to date information about clubs, athletics, and other important announcements.

* Parent Pick Up - Do NOT park at Birch Pointe OR any of our local businesses for afternoon pickup. You are taking their customer and patients parking spots. You may be fined or towed. Thank you!
* Morning Drop off and Afternoon Pick up - Please do NOT use the Jefferson Avenue entrance as this is where our busses unload each morning between 7:30 and 8:05 and the busses pick up between 3 and 3:20 each day.
Drop off and pick up should take place on the north and east side of the building. 
The road to the East of the Soccer & Softball field from Primrose is ENTRANCE only to the Back 40 in the A.M. and EXIT only from the Back 40 in the P.M.
Please be patient & flexible as we want to ensure the safety of our student drivers as well. Thank you!
NO Electronic Devices per Senate Bill 68 - To minimize distractions, enhance student engagement and comply with new state law outlined in Senate Bill 68, SPS students will not be permitted to use Personal Electronic Devices during the school day. Beginning during the 2025-2026 school year, Personal Electronic Devices MUST be turned off, stored in backpacks, and remain out of sight for the entirety of the school day.
What is defined as a Personal Device?
Cell phones, tablets, personal computers gaming devices, headphones/earbuds and any other electronic device (including watches) that can be used for communication, entertainment or accessing the internet.
How will the policy be enforced on your child’s campus?
Students who violate policy will be asked to turn in
their phone and/or other devices to the office. Additional discipline will be assigned as outlined in the Student Handbook: Inappropriate Cell Phone Usage. Students who refuse to turn in their device may face further disciplinary action. Continued violation of policy could result in loss of Personal Electronic Devices while on the school campus.
KHS 25 - 26 Bell Schedule (W = Wednesday)
* Wednesday Late Start - Classes begin at 8:40 a.m. EVERY Wednesday as our teachers engage in professional learning those mornings. Wednesday bell schedule is at the link above.
Please note BUSSES RUN AT NORMAL TIMES on Wednesday.
* Wednesday Late Start - Once students arrive on campus they are NOT to leave school property. Any students leaving school are subject to school discipline.
* Student Parking Permits - We have approximately 70 spots remaining for purchase. Go to this link & see Mrs. Liston in the financial office to secure your spot on campus.
* Park in your assigned parking spot. IF someone parks in your spot – DO NOT park in another numbered spot, (that becomes a domino effect) but park in a visitor spot. Students will then report the issue by filling out the sheet in the attendance office (door 18). Students must have an SPS parking decal and KHS hang tag to park on campus.
* IF you have NOT purchased a permit you may NOT park on campus. 
NO decal? Park on Jefferson Avenue in front of the baseball/practice field. 
NO Decal? Do NOT park in STAFF, VISITOR, or HANDICAPPED SPOTS at KHS. 
NO decal? Do NOT park at Gillenwater tennis courts, Birch Pointe across the street OR any of our local businesses. You may be fined or towed.
* Bike Racks - Our bike rack on the west side (Jefferson Avenue) has been full recently. We have two additional bike racks on the east side (attendance entrance) of the building with plenty of space.

* Class of 2026 Kickapoo Graduation will be Saturday, May 16, 2026 at 7 p.m. at Great Southern Bank Arena
* Senior Meeting - Counselors met with Seniors on Thursday, Aug. 28th to go over all things senior year, including important dates, etc. You can review the presentation HERE.
* District Scholarship Bulletin - Check regularly for updates.
* FREE Tutoring - Is available from 3:25 - 4:25 p.m. in our library each day we are in session. 
* Progress Reports - Our first progress report will be available online by end of day Thursday, Sept. 4th. Use the link below and login. Late Thursday or early Friday you can then click on the Grades button at the top of the page and then the IPR tab.
* Grades - Can be viewed in Home Access Center at this link where you will login. Then follow this path - Click the Classes button at the top of the screen. Then click the Classwork tab for the current grades.
* Have Online Classes or an Open Block? - ALL students who are taking any online Launch class or has an Open Block MUST be off campus during that class block. If you are unable to be off site you will be required to take a seated class. Thank you.

* SPS U & Kickapoo Open House - Tuesday, Sept. 9th from 5 - 6:30 p.m.
5 p.m. - Opening Session with Dr. Powers in the PAC (Performing Arts Center)
5:30 p.m. - Kickapoo U parent meeting in the PAC
6 p.m. - Senior (Class of 2026) parent meeting in the PAC
5:30 - 6:30 p.m. - Club fair in the commons & tour our building and visit with teachers and staff.
* SPS High School Attendance Requirement for Dances. In order to attend a SPS dance students must meet the following requirements:
90% overall attendance (school-sponsored activities do not count as absences) by a determined date prior to the dance set by the high school site administration. 
Kickapoo's first dance is Friday, Oct 3. Students must have 90% or better attendance by end of day Friday, Sept. 26.
Must be in attendance the entire school day the day of the dance.
Must not be serving ISS or OSS on the day of the dance.
Major discipline infractions may result in non-admittance to the school dance.
Pay ALL fines & fees in Financial office.
* SPS High School Final Exam Exemption Requirements. Students are eligible for finals exemption by meeting the following criteria:
90% overall attendance (school-sponsored activities do not count as absences) per semester.
Received no ISS or OSS for the semester.
Passing the class with an 80% or greater prior to the final exam.
Exempt students may take the final to improve their grade in a class; in this case, the final grade cannot hurt the student’s overall grade.
Required to attend class during the final exam block and complete optional enrichment tasks provided.
Dual credit, AP, IB, and virtual classes are not eligible for final exemptions.
* Student Attendance - Our yearly goal is 95%. Thank you for being in class, on time, everyday!
Kickapoo Handbook - All things Kickapoo.
* School Policies & Procedures: The SPS Student Handbook can be accessed through the Kickapoo website, under Quick Links. ALL students will receive a hard copy the first week of school.
Page 1 must be signed by both guardian AND student AND returned to KHS teacher who gave student the handbook by Friday, Aug. 22nd.
* Financial Information: You may pay fines and fees at the financial office with Mrs. Liston. You may also view financial information and make payments online at https://www.sps.org/spsmyschoolbucks. Fines & fees shown in eSchool are not correct. You MUST go to My School Bucks.
* Chromebook repair process - We have created a form for students to request a Chromebook so they can get theirs repaired. It is located in the Tribe Talk course in Canvas.
Please direct students to the link and have them complete the form. We will contact the students to come to the library to pick up or exchange their Chromebook. If they are unable to complete the form, please have a classmate or teacher complete the form for the student.
Let us know if you have any questions.
* Chromebooks - Students should bring a charged Chromebook to school each day. We are limited on the number of loaners we have and first priority goes to students needing repairs. Thank you.
* ID Badges - ALL students received a NEW badge and lanyard during 2nd block on the 1st day of class. IF they did not please have them report to the ID badge room to get one as soon as possible.
* Students MUST have ID badges on them at all times during the school day.
* ID Badges are required for ALL sporting events. No ID = NO admittance to the game.
* Kickapoo Breakfast & Lunch Menus are HERE.
* Reminders:
  • Any students needing WiFi can request a Kajeet hotspot through our library.
  • Kickapoo will open our doors at 7:40 a.m. and first block begins at 8:10 a.m. every day Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday.
  • Wednesday is late start for students so staff may participate in professional learning. Classes begin at 8:40 a.m. ALL BUSSES WILL RUN AT NORMAL TIMES.
  • Classes end at 3:10 p.m. every day.
  • All students should leave school/campus by 3:45 p.m. unless directly supervised by a teacher, coach, or sponsor.
  • Students should take home Chromebooks every day and charge them each night.
  • Deliveries to school - Parents/guardians may deliver food and other items to school. We ask that you label and leave them on the table. Please communicate with your student to let them know items have been dropped off for them as we do not contact them.
  • NO FOOD or DRINK DELIVERIES FROM OUTSIDE VENDORS. Thank you!
  • Dress code - Follow all dress code expectations. Cover ALL B's!
