Kickapoo announcements May 6 - 10, 2024

Hello Kickapoo families,

It is Teacher Appreciation Week - May 6 - 10. Please reach out to your students current and previous teachers and show them the appreciation they deserve for the impact they have made on your child!

Seniors are down to single digits - only 9 days remaining! Fourteen more with all other students. We need everyone to continue to be in school and engaged everyday.

As always, I send these announcements via Connect 5 text & email and Canvas inbox each weekend during the course of the school year.

These announcements include several important items. However, they are not all inclusive. Please remember to check our social media and website for the most up to date information about clubs, athletics, and other important announcements.

* Senior Baccalaureate - Sunday, May 12th from 2 - 3 p.m. Bring your gown to wear during the service.

* Senior Recognition & Memories Assembly - Wednesday, May 15th @ 9 a.m. in the PAC.

* Seniors Last Day of Class & Final Exams - Thursday, May 16th.

* Graduation Practice and Senior Clap Out - Friday, May 17th.

Clap Out from PAC through KHS at approximately 9:30 a.m. Bring cap & gown for clap out!

* Seniors Chromebook Return - Seniors return your Chromebook, charger, and bag to the library once ALL final exams, projects, etc. have been completed.

* Class of 2024 Kickapoo Graduation will be Saturday, May 18th at 7 p.m. at Great Southern Bank Arena. 

Graduates need to arrive at Hammons Student Center for pictures and line up by 5:45 p.m.

* Senior Send Off - May 18th from 9:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. at Kickapoo.

Tickets are $5 and will be sold during lunch Monday, May 13 - Thursday, May 16th and Friday, May 17th after clap out. Must have a ticket to attend.

* Cap & Gown Orders - If you preordered and did not pick up yet they are in the main office. IF you have NOT ordered your cap & gown please go to the counseling center to do so ASAP.

* Senior Meeting - Important information for all seniors. 

* Graduation Letter from SPS - In case you missed it this letter was sent to all families with seniors by SPS. Please read prior to graduation day for important information.

* Graduation - Inclement weather instructions for GSB Arena.

* SPS Final Exam Exemption Requirements - 

Students are eligible for finals exemption by meeting the following criteria:

• 90% overall attendance (school-sponsored activities do not count as absences) per semester
• Received no ISS or OSS for the semester
• Passing the class with an 80% or greater prior to the final exam
• Exempt students may take the final to improve their grade in a class; in this case, the final grade cannot hurt the student’s overall grade
• Required to attend class during the final exam block and complete optional enrichment tasks provided
• Dual credit, AP, and Launch virtual classes are NOT eligible for final exemptions.

* Student Attendance - A reminder our goal is for all students to be in attendance 95% or more for the year. Here is where we are by grade level for Week 34 and overall year-to-date as a school.

* 4th Quarter attendance incentives for students with 100% each week and for the quarter. This is for 4th quarter ONLY. 

* Attendance - When should students not attend school? Check out this guidance from our school nurses. 

* Last Day of School & Final Exams - Thursday, May 23rd and it IS a FULL day (8:10 a.m. - 3:10 p.m.)

* Chromebooks for current 9th - 11th graders - KEEP your Chromebooks over the summer. 

If you are NOT returning to Springfield Public Schools (SPS) for 24-25 return your device, charger, and bag to the library before leaving for summer. If you move outside of SPS over the summer please return to the main office. Thank you.

* Students earn Credits EVERY 9 weeks. Please make sure you are monitoring grades via eSchool Home Access Center under the Classes Tab, then Classwork tab - login here.

* Grades in Canvas are NOT the official grades for students. Teachers do grade items in Canvas. However, all grades are transferred to eSchool and these are the official grades.

* FREE Tutoring for all Kickapoo students, seated or online, is available in our library from 3:25 - 4:25 any day we are in session.

* End of Course (EOC) Exams - Students in Algebra I/IB, select students in Alg. II, Biology, English II, and American Government will be taking their EOC exams on the following dates:

Algebra I/IB & select Alg. II students:

Monday, May 13 & Tuesday, May 14.

English II: 

Monday, May 13 & Tuesday, May 14.

Biology:

Thursday, May 16.

American Government:

Thursday, May 16.

Are you curious if your student could benefit from Explore? Reach out to Mrs. Kim Harris, kharris@spsmail.org with general summer school questions. If questions have to do with course credits on your student’s transcript, please contact their counselor.
All high school courses offered in the summer are online classes. They offer 2 sessions: June 3rd - June 28th and July 8th – August 2nd and students can earn a maximum of 2 credits.
* Financial Information: You may pay fines and fees at the financial office with Mrs. Liston. You may also view financial information and make payments online at https://www.sps.org/spsmyschoolbucks. Fines & fees shown in eSchool are not correct. You MUST go to My School Bucks.

* Reminders:

• Any students needing WiFi can request a Kajeet hotspot through our library.
• Kickapoo will open our doors at 7:40 a.m. & first block begins at 8:10 a.m. every day Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday.
• Wednesday is late start for students so staff may participate in professional learning. Classes begin at 8:40 a.m. ALL BUSSES WILL RUN AT NORMAL TIMES.
• Classes end at 3:10 p.m. every day.
• All students should leave school/campus by 3:45 p.m. unless directly supervised by a teacher, coach, or sponsor.
• Students should take home Chromebooks every day & Charge them each night.
• Deliveries to school - Parents/guardians may deliver items to school for your student. We ask that you label and leave them on the table inside the office. Please communicate with your student to let them know items have been dropped off for them as we do not contact them.
• ID badges and dress code - ALL students must have an ID every day. Follow all dress code expectations. Cover ALL B's!
• Need a School ID? Request one from a teacher or go to the ID badge room before school, during lunch, or immediately after school.
