Cherokee Announcements for Sept. 25th, 2017

Hello Cherokee families!
We hope you had a great weekend.
It is hard to believe we are in our sixth week of school already.
This Friday we will have our 6 week progress reports available online.
Families are welcome to request teacher conferences at any time so please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if we can help in any way.

  1. Carline - IMPORTANT reminders:
  1. Do NOT pick up your student on Plainview Avenue. This is very dangerous. If you use a side street please don’t block anyone’s driveway.
  2. Remind your student to USE THE CROSSWALK when dropping them off. They should NOT cross Plainview otherwise. The same goes for our parking lot - USE the Crosswalk.
  3. Please pull as far forward as possible before dropping off and picking up students. Carline drop off begins at sign #1. We have two exits to Plainview and both have east and west turns available. Thank you for using both exits.
  4. Please be aware of students walking and riding bikes. Students should use the crosswalk and sidewalk at all times.
  5. Do not use the west/athletic parking area for drop off or pick up during school hours as this is where our busses pick up and drop off. Use it for exiting only. Thank you.
  6. IF you need additional time with your student(s) please pull into a parking spot so everyone else can get in and out in a timely fashion.

  1. Bell Schedules for all year - We use a variety of bell schedules throughout the school year to accommodate music and sports assemblies, character ed, Tribe Time, and other occasions. This LINK will take you to a folder with all of the schedules and the dates we will use them. Please pay special attention as class and lunch times vary for each schedule.

  1. Sports Schedules - These are all posted on our website http://cherokee.spsk12.org/pages/Cherokee_Middle_School  

These games begin at 5:30 p.m. All students MUST have a ride to pick them up NO LATER than 15 minutes after the game ends or they will NOT be allowed to attend the next game. Most volleyball games will be over by 7 p.m. and football around 8:30 p.m. Mr. Schreiner and Dr. Powers will also inform students attending without a parent if they need rides earlier. Thank you for picking up your children in a timely manner.
IF a student attends games without a parent they must remain in the stands during the game. They may go to the restroom and concession stand between games and during halftime only.

  1. PTSA Spirit Wear - We are working with the company and hope to have it delivered to Cherokee this week. We will keep you updated. Thank you for your patience.

  1. Staff Recognition - We have an amazing team here at Cherokee. Thank you to families who have taken time to recognize our team this year! You have no idea how much this means to our teachers and staff. You can complete an Employee Recognition Form here to show them your appreciation. No recognition is too small. Thank you for taking the time to recognize and celebrate our staff!

  1. School Picture day - Friday, Oct. 6th. All students will have their picture taken for the yearbook. You may also purchase pictures. More info to come later this week.

    13) Parent Teacher conference week - We will host parent teacher conferences on Monday, Oct. 23rd from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Thursday, Oct. 26th from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Teachers will send out information on how and when to sign up in late Sept./early October. Thank you.

14) Clubs for everyone - Check out our Daily Announcements on our website for Club information. Drama, Pay It Forward, Scholar Bowl, Speech & Debate, Art, Chess, Math team, Pep Club, Yoga, and more are being added weekly. It is not too late to join any of them.

15) Adopt a School - THANK YOU! We collected $385 in cash, checks, and gift cards as well as 30 boxes of supplies, clothes, and food!
Everything is scheduled to arrive at Dogan Elementary school on Monday, Sept. 25th!
Thank you again for your generosity.

16) Flu Shot clinic - Cherokee will be providing flu shots/mist on Nov. 15th. We will have more information as we get closer to the date, but we wanted everyone to be aware of this opportunity.

17) Progress reports - The 6 week progress report will be available Friday, Sept. 29th.

18) Girls Basketball - Will have tryouts Monday, Oct. 16th - Wednesday, Oct. 18th from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m..
Informational meetings for 7th & 8th grade girls interested in trying out will be held Oct. 2nd and 9th at 7:30 a.m. in the small gym.
All students MUST have a current physical on file dated Feb. 2017 through Oct. 16 in order to tryout.

19) Wrestling - Will begin Monday, Oct. 16th from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
All 7th and 8th graders interested in wrestling MUST have a current physical (Feb. 2017 through Oct. 16th) on file to participate. Pick up a flyer from the main office for more information.

20) No School for students - Monday, Oct. 16th. Teacher professional learning and work day.

21) First quarter ends - Friday, Oct. 13th and Report cards will be available online by Friday, Oct. 20th.

This week’s football game will have 8th grade playing at 5:30 p.m. for a full game and then 7th grade will follow with only 2 quarters.
Rides should pick up students by 7:30 p.m. Thank you.

If you are able to volunteer to help sort orders/items PTSA could use you. See their Facebook page for more info as they could use some help.
Students with small orders may pick them up and take home at dismissal.
Students with larger orders must have someone come to school between
3 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. to pick up from the cafeteria.
We don’t have space to store orders overnight. Make arrangements to pick up on the 19th.

     12) Progress reports - Grades have been posted today, Friday, Sept. 8th.
A reminder that it is very early and very few grades may be entered at this time. So, one poor grade or missing assignment could have a large impact on their grade.
Also, each team has a specific way for families to notify them you have seen student grades. If not, please contact the team via email or phone to determine their prefered method.
You are welcome to check grades via eSchool Home Access Center at any time. Your student can show you how to do so if you need help. Also, your eSchool and Canvas password and login are the same. See the IGNITE packet under item #6 above for details on how to login.

16. Washington, D.C. trip - 8th Grade families - Interested in visiting Washington, D.C. during Spring Break? We already have about 30 students signed up.
If you are interested and want to learn more we have a parent/student meeting on Sept. 13th at 5 p.m. in our cafeteria.
