Kickapoo announcements Aug. 29 - Sept. 2, 2022

Hello Kickapoo families!

We had an amazing first week that kicked off on Day 1 with our assembly to clap in our 9th graders and celebrate our return to school!

A reminder our doors open at 7:40 a.m. and 1st block starts at 8:10 a.m.! Please prepare for heavy traffic on Campbell, National, and Primrose each morning and afternoon.

We will begin first block tardies for non-bus riders on Tuesday, Aug. 30.

I will send these announcements via email and Canvas each weekend during the course of the school year. These announcements include several important items. However, they are not all inclusive. Please remember to check our social media and website for the most up to date information about clubs, athletics, and other important announcements.

* Morning Drop off and Afternoon Pick up - Please do NOT use the Jefferson Avenue entrance as this is where our busses unload each morning between 7:30 and 8:05 and the busses pick up between 3 and 3:20 each day.

Drop off and pick up should take place on the north and east side of the building. Please see the picture below for the best routes to take. 

The Blue dashes show where PARENTS should travel to drop off students or pick them up at dismissal. 

The Red dashes are for our BUSSES. Please also note we do have 3 busses that drop off and pick up on the east side nearest Primrose. Thank you for leaving them space to pick up and drop off.

AFTERNOON PICKUP HELP - IF you are heading south on Jefferson Avenue please do NOT block the southbound lane. This is keeping our busses from being able to pick up on time. Please enter from Primrose IF the southbound lane is congested to avoid blocking the busses. Thank you!

Please be patient, flexible, and patient as we want to ensure the safety of our student drivers as well. Thank you!

* KHS 22 - 23 Bell & Lunch Schedule

* Wednesday Late Start - Classes begin at 8:40 a.m. on Wednesday's as our teachers engage in professional learning those mornings. Wednesday bell schedule is at the link above.

Please note BUSSES RUN AT NORMAL TIMES on Wednesday.

* Student Parking Permits - Were sold Monday, Aug. 22 - Friday, Aug. 26 in the Financial Office. We are NOT selling any more permits until we are able to reasses IF we have spots available later this week.

Students who purchased a parking permit last week will pick their parking spots on Monday, Aug. 29th during 1st block. We will call down Seniors who have purchased, then Juniors, & finally Sophmores who have purchased a permit in advance.

Do NOT park in STAFF, VISITOR, or HANDICAPPED SPOTS at KHS. Also, do NOT park at Gillenwater tennis courts, Birchpointe across the street OR any of our local businesses. You may be fined or towed.

We will reassess our parking later this week. IF we have spots still available we will reopen the purchase of permits as soon as possible.

* SPS University/Open House - Tuesday, Sept. 13 from 6 - 8 p.m. Must preregister before END OF DAY AUG. 31 so we can account for childcare and meals needed. Please register HERE IF you have NOT already registered.

* Senior Meeting - Senior Meeting for students is Thursday, September 1st during Chief Time in the PAC.  Seniors will need to be released from class to the PAC when the PLT bell ring. They will not return to that class so they need to take belongings with them.

2022-2023 School Calendar

* No School - Monday, Sept. 5 for Labor Day.

* Class of 2022 Kickapoo Graduation will be Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 7 p.m. at Great Southern Bank Arena.

* FREE Tutoring at KHS -
Students needing academic support from KHS teachers can report to the library from 3:25 - 4:25 Monday - Friday. Students must sign in and remain the full hour unless a parent signs them out. Thank you.
* Chromebook repair process - 
We have created a form for students to request a Chromebook so they can get theirs repaired.  It is located in the Tribe Talk course in Canvas.

Please direct students to the link and have them complete the form. We will contact the students to come to the library to pick up or exchange their Chromebook. If they are unable to complete the form, please have a classmate or teacher complete the form for the student.

* Chromebooks - Students should bring a charged Chromebook to school each day. We are limited on the number of loaners we have and first priority goes to students needing repairs. Thank you.

* CANVAS HELP - Need help accessing and checking online learning with your student??? Click here for a list of resources from SPS. You can also click here for a guide for “how-to” items for parents. Please be sure to reach out with questions as we navigate online learning.

* Nutrition Services Information - Please note that breakfast and lunch are NOT free for all students this year.

Families please fill out the application for Free and Reduced meal benefits hereThe 2022-2023 application only takes a few minutes to complete. For every student that qualifies for free or reduced priced meals, Springfield Public Schools receives federal and state funds that can be used for:

·    Additional teachers and instructional support, especially for students struggling in math and reading.

·    Support for students in the areas of attendance, behavior, science, technology, engineering, and math instruction.

·    Parent involvement activities in school.

·    Professional learning for staff, which helps improve instruction and increase student achievement.

  • Kickapoo will open our doors at 7:40 a.m. and first block begins at 8:10 a.m. every day Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday. 
  • Wednesday is late start for students so staff may participate in professional learning. Classes begin at 8:40 a.m. ALL BUSSES WILL RUN AT NORMAL TIMES.

  • All students should leave school/campus by 3:30 p.m. unless directly supervised by a teacher, coach, or sponsor.
  • Students should take home Chromebooks every day.
  • Deliveries to school - Parents/guardians may deliver food and other items to school. We ask that you label and leave them on the table. Please communicate with your student to let them know items have been dropped off for them as we do not contact them. 
  • NO food deliveries from outside vendors. 
  • ID badges and dress code - ALL students must have an ID every day. Follow all dress code expectations. Cover ALL B's (Belly's, Breast's, & Butts)!
  • ALL students received a NEW ID & Lanyard on the first day of school. IF they did not please have your student request one from a teacher.
Again, the items I have listed above are NOT all inclusive.

We are excited for the 22 - 23 school year to start on Monday, Aug. 22! Our doors open at 7:40 a.m. and 1st block starts at 8:10 a.m.! * 1st Day Assembly - We are starting our day with an assembly. Here is the schedule:

1st Block - 8:10 to 8:25

8:25 - 10th, 11th, 12th graders report to football stadium with class.

8:30 - 9th graders report to commons with teachers & then to stadium with teachers.

Assembly at Football field until 9:55ish.

1st Block continues 10:05 - 10:40

2nd Block 10:45 - 11:30

3rd & 4th block = normal Bell Schedule.

* Class of 2023 (Seniors) Immunizations: If your child will be a senior this year (22 - 23), according to Missouri state law, in order to attend school ONLINE OR IN-PERSON, they must have documentation of a meningococcal vaccine after their 16th birthday. Please turn those in to our nurses THIS WEEK. If you have questions please contact our nurses at 523-8500.

*  2022-2023 School CalendarThe calendar was approved by the SPS Board of Education with the first day of school to be Aug. 22, 2022 and the last day to be May 25, 2023.

* Class of 2022 Kickapoo Graduation will be Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 7 p.m. at Great Southern Bank Arena.

* Have Seated & Online Classes? - Launch Class/Seated Schedule. Hello - If you have a Launch class during the day first quarter, but are seated for the other three blocks, please read the message below.
Students taking a Launch class during the day with a seated schedule:

-On August 22nd, meet in the commons that block for blocks 1, 2, and 4. Meet in room 205 for 3rd block.
-You must turn in the form linked below and mark offsite or onsite learner for quarter 1. If you have it signed on the first day of the quarter and plan on being an offsite learner, you may leave. If the form is not signed, you must stay on campus until it is signed.
-Please read the form for rules on being an offsite and onsite learner.
-The form can be turned in to me in the attendance office, the counseling office, or room 205.
Be sure you sign AND PRINT your name
