Hello Kickapoo families!

We hope each of you are doing well.

 A reminder that students earn credits toward graduation EACH QUARTER. Our second progress report (6 weeks grades) will be posted on Friday afternoon and we only have 19 school days remaining in the first quarter as the last day is Oct. 20th. 

See below for new announcements and several reminders. I will send these announcements via email and Canvas each weekend during the course of the school year. These announcements include several important items. However, they are not all inclusive. Please remember to check our social media and website for the most up to date information about clubs, athletics, and other important announcements.

* KHS 22 - 23 Bell & Lunch Schedule

* Parent Teacher Conferences - Tuesday, Oct. 11th from 3:30 - 7 p.m.

Please call 523-8501 between 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Oct. 6th, 7th, or 10th to schedule a time with teachers.

* No School - Friday, Oct. 21st for teacher professional learning and work.

* End of 1st Quarter - Thursday, Oct. 20th.

* Parking - Students do NOT park in STAFF, VISITOR, or HANDICAPPED SPOTS at KHS. Also, do NOT park at Gillenwater tennis courts, Birchpointe across the street, OR any of our local businesses. You may be fined or towed.

IF someone parks in your assigned spot please park in visitor and report to the attendance office that someone is in your spot. Admin will handle it from that point. Thank you.

* Grades - Are in eSchool Home Access Center. Please note IF you see grades in Canvas those are not the official grade book for teachers and is NOT the official grade for your student. Please see below on how to login to eSchool Home Access Center for official and accurate student grades.

* D & F phone calls - IF your student has a D or F in any of their classes you should receive a phone call from me on Tuesday evening. These calls will be made each Tuesday for the remainder of the quarter. If you have questions or concerns please contact your students teachers or counselor.
* IPLT - Any student who has two or more F's in their core classes will be assigned to Intensive Personlized Learning Time (IPLT) on Monday, Thursday, and Friday starting this week. During this 30 minute period students will focus on the classes they are failing and will have the support of KHS teachers and Chief Mentors.

* Senior Meeting - Senior Meeting for students was held Thursday, September 1 to go over several important dates and other information for senior year. Here is the presentation.
* FAFSA Frenzy - Need support filling out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)? We all do!! We are hosting a FAFSA Frenzy here at Kickapoo on Thursday, Oct. 13th from 5:30 - 7:30 in the commons where local experts can support you in completing the application. Contact your counselor for more information.
* Senior Headshot & Quotes - Hi Senior class of 2023, below this message there is a link that you may click to submit your senior quote that will be going in the spring 2023 yearbook. All of your senior quotes and headshots will be DUE OCT. 20TH. If you submit your senior quote or headshot past October 20th we cannot guarantee your photo and quote will be included. Your school picture from all school Picture day meets all of our requirements, it is free, and we encourage you to use this one.  Share senior quote here.

2022-2023 School Calendar

* Class of 2023 Kickapoo Graduation will be Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 7 p.m. at Great Southern Bank Arena.

* FREE Tutoring at KHS - Students needing academic support from KHS teachers can report to the library from 3:25 - 4:25 p.m. Monday - Friday when school is in session. Students must sign in and out with supervising teachers. Thank you.
* Volunteerism Hours - Volunteer Hours accrued from May 1 – August 31, 2022 must be turned in through Canvas no later than September 30th. They will not be accepted late! Students need to log in to Canvas, read the information and follow the directions to turn in your hours! ALL students can work their way toward earning a volunteerism medal to wear at graduation!  Get out there in the community and give back!
* 22-23 Yearbook - $50 from Sept. 24 - March 10th.
The price increases to $55 from March 11 - April 1. Go HERE to purchase.
* Homecoming Dance - Friday, Sept. 30th from 9:30 - 11:30 p.m. Students MUST BE in attendance ALL Day to attend. Tickets on sale during lunches the week of the dance. They are $10 Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday. Price increases to $15 on Thursday & Friday. NO tickets sold after 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30.
ALL FEES (library, lunch, technology, etc.) MUST BE PAID BEFORE YOU CAN PURCHASE A TICKET. Pay in person with the financial secretary or online with MySchoolBucks HERE.
* Homecoming Spirit Week!
Monday - Pop Rock N Roll - Wear band t-shirts.

* FREE Flu Vaccine Clinic - Will be held at Kickapoo on Monday, Oct. 10th. Permission forms must be turned in to our nurses by Oct. 3rd. Forms are available in the main office or on the nurses' webpage HERE.
* Chromebook repair process - 
We have created a form for students to request a Chromebook so they can get theirs repaired.  It is located in the Tribe Talk course in Canvas.

Please direct students to the link and have them complete the form. We will contact the students to come to the library to pick up or exchange their Chromebook. If they are unable to complete the form, please have a classmate or teacher complete the form for the student.

* Chromebooks - Students should bring a charged Chromebook to school each day. We are limited on the number of loaners we have and first priority goes to students needing repairs. Thank you.

* CANVAS HELP - Need help accessing and checking online learning with your student??? Click here for a list of resources from SPS. You can also click here for a guide for “how-to” items for parents. Please be sure to reach out with questions as we navigate online learning.

* Nutrition Services Information - Please note that breakfast and lunch are NOT free for all students this year.

Families please fill out the application for Free and Reduced meal benefits hereThe 2022-2023 application only takes a few minutes to complete. For every student that qualifies for free or reduced priced meals, Springfield Public Schools receives federal and state funds that can be used for:

·    Additional teachers and instructional support, especially for students struggling in math and reading.

·    Support for students in the areas of attendance, behavior, science, technology, engineering, and math instruction.

·    Parent involvement activities in school.

·    Professional learning for staff, which helps improve instruction and increase student achievement.

  • Any students needing WiFi can request a Kajeet hotspot through our library.
  • Kickapoo will open our doors at 7:40 a.m. and first block begins at 8:10 a.m. every day Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday. 
  • Wednesday is late start for students so staff may participate in professional learning. Classes begin at 8:40 a.m. ALL BUSSES WILL RUN AT NORMAL TIMES.
  • Classes end at 3:10 p.m. every day.
  • All students should leave school/campus by 3:30 p.m. unless directly supervised by a teacher, coach, or sponsor.
  • Students should take home Chromebooks every day.
  • Deliveries to school - Parents/guardians may deliver food and other items to school. We ask that you label and leave them on the table. Please communicate with your student to let them know items have been dropped off for them as we do not contact them. 
  • NO food deliveries from outside vendors. 
  • ID badges and dress code - ALL students must have an ID every day. Follow all dress code expectations. Cover ALL B's (Belly's, Breast's, & Butts)!
  • ALL students received a NEW ID & Lanyard on the first day of school. IF they did not please have your student request one from a teacher.
Again, the items I have listed above are NOT all inclusive.

All students are encouraged to have their picture taken so you will be included in the yearbook. You do not have to purchase a picture package to have your picture taken to be included.

Seniors may use this school picture for their submission for the yearbook.

* NHS (National Honor Society) - If you are not currently a member of NHS and you meet the requirements, an invitation to apply to NHS was sent to you on Wednesday via CANVAS. Look in Canvas for an invitation to join the NHS Applicant Course. Accept the Canvas Course invitation. Read the letter and click on the link at the bottom of the page to apply. Applications must be submitted by Friday, September 16th at 5:00 p.m. No applications will be accepted past this deadline, no exceptions. This is the only time this school year to apply to join NHS. We will not have a spring induction this year. If you have any questions or do not receive an invitation to join the Canvas NHS application page and you think this is an error, stop by Mrs. Fink’s room 226 to inquire BEFORE Friday, September 16th.

Kickapoo announcements Sept. 5 - 9, 2022

Hello Kickapoo families!

We hope everyone had a fantastic Labor Day weekend. Friendly reminder we do not have school Monday.

Our doors open at 7:40 a.m. Monday - Friday and 1st block starts at 8:10 a.m.! Please prepare for heavy traffic on Campbell, National, and Primrose each morning and afternoon.

I will send these announcements via email and Canvas each weekend during the course of the school year. These announcements include several important items. However, they are not all inclusive. Please remember to check our social media and website for the most up to date information about clubs, athletics, and other important announcements.

You can find our Daily Announcements on our website and linked HERE. Please check these frequently as they are updated daily.

* Morning Drop off and Afternoon Pick up - Please do NOT use the Jefferson Avenue entrance as this is where our busses unload each morning between 7:30 and 8:05 and the busses pick up between 3 and 3:20 each day.

Drop off and pick up should take place on the north and east side of the building. Please see the picture below for the best routes to take. 

The Blue dashes show where PARENTS should travel to drop off students or pick them up at dismissal. 

The Red dashes are for our BUSSES. Please also note we do have 3 busses that drop off and pick up on the east side nearest Primrose. Thank you for leaving them space to pick up and drop off.

AFTERNOON PICKUP HELP - IF you are heading south on Jefferson Avenue please do NOT block the southbound lane. This is keeping our busses from being able to pick up on time. Please enter from Primrose IF the southbound lane is congested to avoid blocking the busses. Thank you!

Please be patient, flexible, and patient as we want to ensure the safety of our student drivers as well. Thank you!

* KHS 22 - 23 Bell & Lunch Schedule

* Wednesday Late Start - Classes begin at 8:40 a.m. on Wednesday's as our teachers engage in professional learning those mornings. Wednesday bell schedule is at the link above.

Please note BUSSES RUN AT NORMAL TIMES on Wednesday.

* Student Parking Permits - We have approximately 50 parking spots remaining. Students may purchase beginning Tuesday morning at the financial office. Students must have $35 cash or check (payable to KHS), drivers license, tag number, and make and model of car. Once purchased they may then select their parking spot. 

Do NOT park in STAFF, VISITOR, or HANDICAPPED SPOTS at KHS. Also, do NOT park at Gillenwater tennis courts, Birchpointe across the street, OR any of our local businesses. You may be fined or towed.

* SPS University/Open House - Tuesday, Sept. 13 from 6 - 8 p.m. at Kickapoo. Open for all KHS families. We will have a meal and childcare for all who pre-registered by the Aug. 31 deadline.

* Senior Meeting - Senior Meeting for students was held Thursday, September 1 to go over several important dates and other information for senior year. Here is the presentation.
* Senior Headshot & Quotes - Hi Senior class of 2023, below this message there is a link that you may click to submit your senior quote that will be going in the spring 2023 yearbook. All of your senior quotes and headshots will be DUE OCT. 20TH. If you submit your senior quote or headshot past October 20th we cannot guarantee your photo and quote will be included. Your school picture from all school Picture day meets all of our requirements, it is free, and we encourage you to use this one.  Share senior quote here.

* No School - Monday, Sept. 5 for Labor Day.

* Class of 2023 Kickapoo Graduation will be Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 7 p.m. at Great Southern Bank Arena.

* 22-23 Bell & Lunch Schedule
* FREE Tutoring at KHS - 
Students needing academic support from KHS teachers can report to the library from 3:25 - 4:25 p.m. Monday - Friday when school is in session. Students must sign in and out with supervising teachers. Thank you.
* NHS (National Honor Society) - NHS is going to have a FALL induction this year instead of a spring induction!  That means the application process will begin this week. If you are not a member of NHS and would like to be, the requirements to be invited to apply are you need to be a sophomore, junior or senior, and have a cumulative GPA for just your high school years of 4.0 or better/5.0 weighted scale. If you qualify, you will receive an invitation to join a Canvas course for NHS Applicants.  Accept that course invitation when you see it in Canvas and everything you need to apply will be there.  If you qualify, you will receive your invitation to the NHS Canvas course by the end of the day Wednesday, September 7.  If you don’t receive an invitation and you believe you qualify, stop by Mrs. Fink’s room 226 ASAP to inquire. If you are already a member of NHS, you do not need to reapply!
* A+ & Kickapoo U Volunteer Hours - Volunteer Hours accrued from May 1 – August 31, 2022 must be turned in through Canvas no later than September 30th. They will not be accepted late! Students need to log in to Canvas, read the information and follow the directions to turn in your hours! 
* ASVAB Test - The ASVAB Career Exploration Program is an assessment that helps students discover their strengths and interests so they may map out post-secondary plans that work for them. If you select to take the ASVAB, it will be offered FREE of charge at Kickapoo High School on Wednesday, September 14th in the library, 8:00-11:00 a.m. The military funds this assessment for our students.  All students are required to have an ACT or ASVAB score on file to graduate.  If you are junior or senior and would like to take the ASVAB the sign-up sheet is in the counseling center.  Sign up TODAY! The deadline to register is Friday, September 9th. As a reminder, Wednesday is a late start day. You will need to arrive early to be ready to start the test at 8:00 a.m.
* 22-23 Yearbook - Is on sale now for $45. This price is only for the next 20 days. Go HERE to purchase.
* Chromebook repair process - 
We have created a form for students to request a Chromebook so they can get theirs repaired.  It is located in the Tribe Talk course in Canvas.

Please direct students to the link and have them complete the form. We will contact the students to come to the library to pick up or exchange their Chromebook. If they are unable to complete the form, please have a classmate or teacher complete the form for the student.

* Chromebooks - Students should bring a charged Chromebook to school each day. We are limited on the number of loaners we have and first priority goes to students needing repairs. Thank you.

* CANVAS HELP - Need help accessing and checking online learning with your student??? Click here for a list of resources from SPS. You can also click here for a guide for “how-to” items for parents. Please be sure to reach out with questions as we navigate online learning.

* Nutrition Services Information - Please note that breakfast and lunch are NOT free for all students this year.

Families please fill out the application for Free and Reduced meal benefits hereThe 2022-2023 application only takes a few minutes to complete. For every student that qualifies for free or reduced priced meals, Springfield Public Schools receives federal and state funds that can be used for:

·    Additional teachers and instructional support, especially for students struggling in math and reading.

·    Support for students in the areas of attendance, behavior, science, technology, engineering, and math instruction.

·    Parent involvement activities in school.

·    Professional learning for staff, which helps improve instruction and increase student achievement.

  • Any students needing WiFi can request a Kajeet hotspot through our library.
  • Kickapoo will open our doors at 7:40 a.m. and first block begins at 8:10 a.m. every day Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday. 
  • Wednesday is late start for students so staff may participate in professional learning. Classes begin at 8:40 a.m. ALL BUSSES WILL RUN AT NORMAL TIMES.
  • Classes end at 3:10 p.m. every day.
  • All students should leave school/campus by 3:30 p.m. unless directly supervised by a teacher, coach, or sponsor.
  • Students should take home Chromebooks every day.
  • Deliveries to school - Parents/guardians may deliver food and other items to school. We ask that you label and leave them on the table. Please communicate with your student to let them know items have been dropped off for them as we do not contact them. 
  • NO food deliveries from outside vendors. 
  • ID badges and dress code - ALL students must have an ID every day. Follow all dress code expectations. Cover ALL B's (Belly's, Breast's, & Butts)!
