Oct. 26 - 30 announcements

Hello Cherokee Families,
I’ve shared info regarding IGNiTE a few times this year. Our students will receive their Chromebooks on Wednesday, Nov. 4th.
Students are being given the following informational items to take home this week or you may access them via the hyperlinks below:

Here are a few updates and reminders for you:
1.  FOOD FIGHT! - Thank you for all contributions. If you planned to donate and forgot please turn them in as soon as possible as Ozarks Food Harvest is coming this week to pick up our donations.
2. PTSA Reflections contest - This is a fine art opportunity for all of our students. The 2015 - 2016 theme is “Let Your Imagination Fly” and you can find the rules and entry form HERE. Deadline is this Friday, Oct. 30th. Please turn in to the main office.
3. Spirit Wear sales Take 2 - The second and final round of PTSA spirit wear sales will conclude this Friday, Oct. 30th. We’ve add a few additional styles for winter & a Kickapoo shirt as well. Click HERE for more info.
4. Legislative rally - Thursday, Nov. 5 the Springfield Council of PTAs and Missouri PTAs will hold its General Meeting at Kickapoo High School at 6 p.m. Students of the PTSAs will have a chance to ask questions along with teachers and parents. Food and childcare will be provided. Several elected offices will be represented: Blunt, McCaskill, Long, Norr, Huff and more.

5. Kickapoo Health Expo - Eighth grade future Chiefs who are interested in health fields are invited to attend Thursday, Oct. 29th from 6:30 - 8 pm in the Kickapoo Commons. KHS will have a wide range of health service professionals to talk with students about their field and answer questions.  Students and parents are welcome to attend.  Please see our daily announcements (#8 below) for more information.
6. MAP scores - These scores will be given to families attending Parent-Teacher conferences this week. If you do not attend P/T conferences we will be sending these scores home with students this week.
7. APR scores - You may have seen in the media over the weekend information about our ‘Report Card.’ Cherokee did receive 90 of 100 (90%) possible points which is down slightly from 91.4% we earned last year. We have much to celebrate, but we will continue to work to meet the needs of all of our students. If you have any questions regarding these scores please don’t hesitate to contact me at any time.
8.  Daily Announcement and website – Remember you can stay closely connected with these listed events and even more each day by visiting our website HERE. Our Daily Announcements are updated Monday – Friday.
9. No school for students on Nov. 2nd and 3rd. Students return to school on Wednesday, Nov. 4th.
10. Picture retake day - Friday, Nov. 6th. More information to follow.
11. Transitional Transfers - Current 5th & 8th grade student families - if you desire for your child to attend a middle or high school other than the school that serves your address, a transitional transfer request form must be completed. The window to complete this is from 8 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 2nd through Friday, Dec. 4th at 4 p.m. You can find the form on the Cherokee website or HERE. Please let me know if you have any questions.
12. We have an amazing team here at Cherokee. Thank you all the families who submitted a recognition this year! You have no idea how much this means to our teachers and staff.

Oct. 19 - Oct. 23 Announcements

Hello Cherokee Families,
I’ve shared info regarding IGNiTE a few times this year and we are quickly approaching the day our students receive their Chromebooks. In fact, we are scheduled to receive them on Wednesday, Nov. 4th.
We will be sending home a letter next week with more details on the devices and optional insurance families may purchase.
We all are very excited about the changes coming to Cherokee!

Here are a few updates and reminders for you:
1.  PTSA meeting - Tuesday, Oct. 20th at 7:30 a.m. in our library. ALL are welcome to attend.
2. PTSA clothing bank -  Volunteers are needed to help sort clothing at the Springfield Public Schools Clothing Bank on Thursday, November 5 during the hours of  9 am to 5 pm.  Shifts are in two hour increments, but you may adjust those to meet your schedule.  Volunteers are needed to check for stains and tears, sort by sizes, and place donations on clothing racks.  The clothing bank provides clothing to nearly 1,200 Springfield students throughout the year. Students are referred to the needs-based program by their school nurse.  Please consider signing up by visiting www.SignUpGenius.com/go/20F044DA8AB22A3F85-springfield.  
3. Parent/Teacher conference week - Conferences will be held Monday, Oct. 26th from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Wednesday, Oct. 28th from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. We are asking families to please reserve these times only if your child is struggling in a specific course/class. Thank you. You may now schedule a conference any time by contacting your child(ren)s teachers.
4. Reports cards - were sent home Friday, Oct. 16th.
5.  FOOD FIGHT! - Cherokee is participating in the Ozarks Food Harvest Food Fight from Oct. 12 - 23. Please see our daily announcements for specific needs.
6. Wrestling - Is open to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders and All practices will be at Cherokee from 4:45 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the cafeteria. Students may still join.

Oct. 12 - 16 announcements

Hello Cherokee Families,
What a way to end the 1st quarter and Fall sports season - 4 All-City championships in three days. Congrats to our coaches and students on a great season!

Here are a few updates and reminders for you:
1.      FLU shots/mist - will be available at Cherokee this Friday, Oct. 16th.  Check our website for more information. Here is the CONSENT FORM
2. Parent/Teacher conference week - Conferences will be held Monday, Oct. 26th from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Wednesday, Oct. 28th from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. We are asking families to please reserve these times only if your child is struggling in a specific course/class. Thank you. You may now schedule a conference any time by contacting your child(ren)s teachers.

Oct. 5 - 9 Announcements

Hello Cherokee Families,
This is the final week of the 1st quarter! Can you believe it?!
This week is also spirit week as we wrap up our Fall sports season.
Today - Comfy Day. Tuesday - Maroon Out/Cherokee gear. Wednesday - Pink Out/Breast cancer awareness. Thursday - Twin Day. Friday - Dress up/Picture Day.

Here are a few updates and reminders for you:
1. School picture day - Is this Friday, Oct. 9th. Forms will be sent home and information our on website at least one week in advance.

12. Girls basketball & Football - both end this week. The girls tournament begins today (Monday) and will be held at Cherokee on Monday and Tuesday at 3 p.m. & 4:15 p.m..
7th grade championship is Wednesday evening at Glendale and 8th grade championship is Thursday at Glendale. Times to be announced.
According to SPS athletics office passes will NOT be accepted at the tournament.
The final football game is Tuesday evening at Glendale with 7th grade at 5:30 p.m. and 8th grade immediately following.

13. Wrestling & Boys basketball - are coming soon. Wrestling info can be found HERE. PRACTICE TIMES/LOCATION HAVE CHANGED. All practices will be at Cherokee from 4:45 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Basketball tryouts are: 7th grade Oct. 15th & 16th and 8th grade is Oct. 13th & 14th.
