Earlier this month we were happy to announce that all students would be able to eat free due to an extension of federal funding. This extension will continue through Dec. 31, 2020, or until the program funding is depleted.

Since we do not know when that might happen, we want to remind you that you should still complete the Free and Reduced Price Meal application for 2020-2021This will ensure that once the pandemic meal program expires your family will continue to receive meal benefits, if you are eligible.

The current pandemic has impacted many SPS families in ways that may have changed their eligibility. Even if your family has not qualified for free or reduced price meals in the past, the only way to confirm your eligibility is to complete the application. It only takes a few minutes to complete and is available online here

If needed, please review these Frequently Asked Questions and Income Eligibility Guidelines to assist in completing your application.

You may also obtain a printed copy of the application from your child's school or by calling the Nutrition Services office at (417) 523-1130.

Thank you.

Stay Healthy During Flu Season

September 25, 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians:

This year, more than ever, it is crucial for students to stay healthy during flu season. To assist your family in that effort, Springfield Public Schools, in cooperation with Jordan Valley Community Health Center and with support from CoxHealth, Mercy and the Springfield-Greene County Health Department, is offering the seasonal flu vaccine to any student free of charge, as supply allows.

Flu vaccine clinics will be held at each school site and will be available to both virtual and seated students.

·    Each site will have a flu clinic for Mon/Tue students and one for Thu/Fri students. Virtual students can participate in either clinic at their normal school site.

Every student must submit a completed and signed consent form prior to receiving the vaccine. Consent forms can be downloaded or obtained at each school site.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, it is extremely important that we also protect our students and staff from the flu to help ensure we are able to provide in-person learning.

Seated Students

·    Locate your school/site on the flu clinic schedule.

·    Determine if that is a date your child will be in attendance.

·    If not, look for the second clinic date for your school, which will be coded in the same color.

·    Remember to provide a completed             and signed consent form to the school in advance of the flu clinic.

Virtual Students

·    Locate your school/site on the flu clinic schedule identifying the two dates for clinics at that site. Both will be coded in the same color.

·    Determine a date to participate.

·    Provide a completed and signed consent form to the school on the day you participate.

The start time for each clinic must be flexible to allow our healthcare team to complete all vaccinations at one site before moving to a new location. As a result, virtual students will receive a phone call and text message on the days of their flu clinics to alert them when the healthcare team is en route to their school. It will be important for virtual students to arrive quickly at their school site, after receiving the notifications, as the healthcare team will only be at each site for a limited time. Virtual families can also track the healthcare team's location by clicking here.

For more information, please visit www.sps.org/Fluinfo. Please contact your school nurse with questions.

Thank you for helping to keep everyone healthy.

* Open House - Will be virtual this year. We will be providing a short student produced video by the end of October. Stay tuned!

* Parent - Teacher Conferences - Our Fall conferences will be virtual and held on Monday, Nov. 2 from 3 - 7 p.m. You will have the option to visit with teachers by phone or Zoom video meetings. Please contact teachers directly to schedule. Thank you.

Yearbooks are on sale now for $50 and can be purchased HERE.

Wednesday Virtual Day - Each teacher has scheduled a 15 minute time during each students scheduled class time in which they will be live via Zoom. This time will be to present new material and/or review previous material. If you have any questions please contact your teacher via email or Canvas as they are working from home on Wednesday's as well.

Thank you for your patience with us as we navigate the hybrid model of learning. Remember teachers are with students M/T & Th/Fri. If you have questions please email or send a message via Canvas. Allow them up to 24 hours to respond as most of them only have one planning period each day. Thank you.

* CANVAS HELP - Need help accessing and checking online learning with your student??? Click here for a list of resources from SPS. You can also click here for a guide for “how-to” items for parents. Please be sure to reach out with questions as we navigate online learning.

* Join Kickapoo PTSA - Click here for form.

In order to be eligible for the PTSA senior scholarship you must be a member. You can also donate to PTSA or the scholarship fund via the above link. Thank you!
