April is here and the end of the school year is that much closer!
Our seniors have six weeks remaining until graduation on May 10th.
The last day of school for the remainder of our students will be Tuesday, May 21st.

We need all of our students engaged and in school through the end.

Prop S Information

Proposition S would fund 39 priority projects

Springfield voters will be asked April 2 to consider a $168 million bond proposal to fund 39 high-priority projects, which were recommended by a citizen’s task force to make our schools safer and stronger for students and staff.

The projects will renovate or reconstruct 6 schools, create safer entrances at 31 schools, plus add classroom space to expand preschool.

While Kickapoo is not directly receiving funds one of our feeder schools, Carver, will be one

of the schools to receive the addition of a secure entrance.

Projects that would be funded by Proposition S include:

• Secure entrances will be built or renovated at 31 schools including Carver MS.
• Renovation at Sunshine and Williams elementary schools and Hillcrest High School will address accessibility and security challenges, in addition to other improvements.
• New schools will be constructed for Boyd and Delaware elementary schools and Jarrett Middle School, fixing all security and accessibility issues. 
• New storm shelters will be added to Boyd, Delaware, Williams and Sunshine elementary schools, Jarrett Middle School and the southwest early childhood center.
• Classroom space will be added to expand preschool services in the district.

These school improvements would cost less than 10 cents a day in additional property taxes for a home with a market value of $100,000.  This proposal requests an 18-cent increase to the debt-service levy, which would be phased in over two years: 9 cents in 2019 and an additional 9 cents in 2020.

Drop off and Pick up
Families - Please do NOT drop off your students on the streets. Even if it is near

the crosswalk this is dangerous for your child and those driving around you. We don’t want

anyone begin injured. Please do your part and go through the carline.

Thank you to those of you who are safely dropping off and picking up your students. We are

thankful for you watching out for ALL students.

Our number one priority is the safety of our students/your child(ren)!

Also, please DO NOT park in local business parking lots. Thank you.

We allow students in the building beginning at 7:20 each morning and classes start at 7:50

Monday - Thursday and at 8:20 on Friday’s.

Thank you for making KHS as safe as possible for ALL students.

Project Graduation Fundraiser

Help support this year’s Project Graduation committee as they work
to raise funds for our seniors.    
Life 101 - We need your help please!
On April 3^rd Juniors will be taking the ACT.  All other students were given the opportunity to select Life 101 sessions, set up a job shadow or work on volunteerism hours.  If your student selected Job Shadow or Volunteerism they will be receiving the paperwork this week including signature sheet and questions they will need to complete and turn in April 5^th to clear their attendance for the day.  Students are responsible for setting up their own Job Shadow experience or making contact with a community resource for volunteerism and transportation for the day.  All students not testing, remaining on campus will be in hour long sessions on various topics.  Students were surveyed earlier in the year on topics they would like to learn about and last week they had the opportunity to sign up for 5 sessions from 50 options including Ballroom Dancing, Outdoor Skills to Basic Auto Maintenance (including how to change a tire!)  Several of our staff will be presenting sessions but we need your help and experience with the following areas:
Families and Community members…KHS needs your help!  Are you knowledgeable
and willing/able to share your expertise with high school students in any of the
following categories?  If not, do you know someone who can help?

The projects will renovate or reconstruct 6 schools, create safer entrances at 31 schools, plus add classroom space to expand preschool.

While Kickapoo is not directly receiving funds one of our feeder schools, Carver, will be one

of the schools to receive the addition of a secure entrance.

Projects that would be funded by Proposition S include:

• Secure entrances will be built or renovated at 31 schools including Carver MS.
• Renovation at Sunshine and Williams elementary schools and Hillcrest High School will address accessibility and security challenges, in addition to other improvements.
• New schools will be constructed for Boyd and Delaware elementary schools and Jarrett Middle School, fixing all security and accessibility issues. 
• New storm shelters will be added to Boyd, Delaware, Williams and Sunshine elementary schools, Jarrett Middle School and the southwest early childhood center.
• Classroom space will be added to expand preschool services in the district.

These school improvements would cost less than 10 cents a day in additional property taxes for a home with a market value of $100,000.  This proposal requests an 18-cent increase to the debt-service levy, which would be phased in over two years: 9 cents in 2019 and an additional 9 cents in 2020.
