LeadSGF Academy Applications Open
Hello,
The applications for the 2020-2021 Academy Class program have officially launched and we are in the process of recruiting current high school sophomores to apply to be in this program during their junior year.

The Leadership Springfield Academy Class is a community leadership program established in 1990 to help youth in their junior year discover how to be more engaged citizens and develop as community leaders. During this nine month program in the 2020-2021 school year, a class of 32 students will explore their strengths, learn about the local community, and coordinate monthly program days where they get to see firsthand how leaders work together to structure and influence the community around them. Students will gain project management skills, leadership aptitude and a newfound appreciation for the work that goes into making our community function. Most of all, the program is designed to inspire, develop and connect our local students to see the impact they can have on the community.

I have attached a flyer and program year calendar. Please feel free to distribute these to any sophomores you know in the Springfield community. The students may complete the Academy Class application online anytime between now and March 30. Please note that they do not have to complete this application at one time. To save and continue working on your application later, they may click 'Save' at the bottom of any page, enter your email address, and click 'Send' to email yourself the link to continue working on your application at a later time.

Please visit our website for more information on the program and let the students know that they can join us for our Academy Class Information Session event on Wednesday, February 19 from 3:30-5:30. This come and go event will be held at the Leadership Springfield office at 1711 W Battlefield, Suite A. Feel free to stop by to ask us any questions you have about the Academy Class as well.
Thank you,

Ashley Clair, Communications Director
Leadership Springfield, Inc.

Kickapoo announcements Feb. 17 - 21, 2020

Kickapoo Families,
I hope everyone had a peaceful and restful weekend.
Enjoy this brief article from one of my favorite authors/speakers Jon Gordon.

FEED THE POSITIVE
TODAY (AND EVERY DAY)
Your mind is a like a garden. You need to weed it and feed it. Weed the negative. Feed the positive. Doing it one day won’t do a lot but if you weed and feed every day, over time the garden will look magnificent.

1) If they praise you, show up and do the work. If they criticize you, show up and do the work. If no one even notices you, just show up and do the work. Just keep showing up, doing the work, and leading the way.

2) Greatness isn’t achieved by worrying what everyone thinks of you. Don’t look outside. The praise, criticism, expectations; it’s all just noise. Look inside to your heart and soul and do your thing. Do it with love and create greatness from the inside out.

3) Today, shift your perspective and realize it’s not about having to do anything. Life is not an obligation. It’s a gift. Replace “Have To” with “Get To.” Focus on gratitude and you’ll find yourself feeling blessed instead of stressed.

4) Remember... big opportunities come from doing the small things with a big dose of passion, love, purpose and excellence. Be faithful with what you have and where you are today. Don't chase success. Decide to make a difference and success will find you.

5) Tomorrow is a new day. Don’t let what you didn’t do become what you never did. No more putting it off. No more waiting till the “perfect” time. No more letting busyness get in the way. Get started.

Below are a few NEW notes and reminders for you. Have a great week!

Leadership Springfield ACADEMY CLASS APPLICATIONS LAUNCH MONDAY, FEB. 10

Academy Class applications will be open for current sophomores who will be in their junior year in 2020-2021. The Academy program celebrates 30 years this year, and these students continue to showcase the home-grown talent of Springfield. During this nine month program, students explore their strengths, learn about the local community and coordinate monthly program days where they get to see firsthand how leaders work together to structure and influence the community around them. Students will gain project management skills, leadership aptitude and a newfound appreciation for the work that goes into making our community function.

Leadership Springfield offers the Academy program to area students to help them discover how to be more engaged citizens and develop as community leaders. This work has been done thanks to a village of dedicated board members and volunteers, who generously give their time to speak during the program, plan and prepare, or serve in teams as Academy Advisors, guiding students in planning their program days and providing beneficial mentorship. The Academy Class has been offered for 30 years without a cost to the students, their families or the school district.

We would like to share this valuable program with local students, and you can help. Spread the word about the Academy Class to your kids, nieces and nephews, family friends, youth pastors, club leaders and more. To apply, students should be current sophomores and live within the Springfield Public Schools district. They can attend any public, private or homeschool in the district. The application will go live on our website www.leadershipspringfield.org on Monday. We will also host an informational session to answer questions about the Academy Class on February 19 from 3:30 - 5:30 pm at our office - 1711 West Battlefield.
