Kickapoo announcements May 23 - 25, 2022

Hello Kickapoo families,

The final week is here and summer break is just a few short days away! We can all take a deep breath and exhale come May 26th when school is over. Thank you for your continued support and dedication to your students education!

Wednesday, May 25th is a LATE START as it has been ALL year (8 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.).

This is my last newsletter until August. 

Reminder, these announcements include several important items. However, they are not all inclusive. Please remember to check our social media AND website for the most up to date information about clubs, athletics, activities, and other important announcements.

* The last day of class for 9th - 11th graders is WEDNESDAYMay 25, 2022

It is a FULL DAY 8 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

* 4th Quarter grades - Remember you can access grades any time via eSchool Home Access from our website kickapoochiefs.org and find eSchool Home Access under Quick Links on the right side of the page. Teachers should be updating student grades in eSchool on a weekly basis.

* Final grades will not be posted until mid-June.

* Reminder students earn credits to graduate every 9 weeks. Questions about grades or credits? Please contact your students teachers and/or counselor.

We also offer FREE tutoring with KHS teachers after school M - F until 3:45 p.m. in the library. Just show up ready to learn.

Graduates - If you have NOT yet we need you to turn in Chromebooks, chargers, bags, hotspots, and library books between 8 a.m. & 2 p.m. this week. 

Kickapoo Handbook 

* Juniors Class of 2023 - Attention current Juniors!! All incoming seniors must have received one dose of the Meningococcal vaccine after their 16th birthday in order to start school in the fall. Please bring documentation of your vaccine to the nurse by May 25 to ensure a smooth start to 2022-2023.

KICKAPOO U/A+ Volunteerism Hours CHANGE. 

IMPORTANT!! - Current 9th - 11th graders must have ALL volunteer hours for the CURRENT 2021 - 22 school year uploaded on the Canvas course by May 1st. Any and all hours you accumulated THIS SCHOOL YEAR must be recorded by May 1. NO EXCEPTIONS. 

Starting next school year (22 - 23), hours will have to be logged MONTHLY, with a month grace period. 

If a student volunteers between May 1 - August 1 - those hours SHOULD be logged all through the summer months. They must be logged as soon as they are completed.

* Explore registration - Explore (summer school) registration for high school students began on Monday, March 7th. An electronic version of the High School Summer Catalog can be found here.

Final Exams for all 9th - 11th graders will take place on Wednesday, May 25th during normal class time. 

It is still a LATE Start schedule (8 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.)

EOC (end of course) exams for students currently taking Algebra I, some Alg. II students, Biology, English II, and Liberty & Law will be held on the following dates:

Algebra I - May 19 & 20.

Algebra IIH (if needed - ask teacher) - May 19 & 20.

Biology - May 19.

English II - May 19 & 20.

Liberty & Law or AP Government - May 23.

* 22 - 23 Families Eligible for Bus Service must opt-in or opt out by June 15.

Dear SPS families:

Beginning May 10, families who will be eligible for transportation for the 2022-2023 school year will need to opt in OR out of transportation using the link below. This information is needed as we make plans for bus drivers, bus aides and bus routes for the upcoming school year. It is extremely important all transportation eligible students are either opted in or opted out of transportation for the next school year.

You will need the student ID for each of your transportation eligible children to opt in or opt out. You will need to complete the opt in/opt out process separately for each of your transportation eligible children. If you do not have their student ID, please contact your child's school.

For eligible students to receive transportation on the first day of school, you must opt in by June 15.

Please review the following information as you make your decision about transportation for the 2022-2023 school year.

Start and Dismissal Times

The three-tier structure will be as follows:

·    Tier 1: 7:20 a.m.-2:20 p.m.

·    Tier 2: 8:10 a.m.-3:10 p.m.

·    Tier 3: 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Schools Assigned to Tiers

·    Tier 1: 20 elementary schools, two K-8 schools and one intermediate school

·    Tier 2: All high schools, 10 elementary schools and early childhood special education center

·    Tier 3: All middle schools and two K-8 schools

Tier assignments are subject to change.

Eligibility Guidelines

Students who attend elementary, intermediate and K-8 schools must live 1.5 miles or more from school to be eligible for transportation. Middle school and high school students must live 2.5 miles or more from school to be eligible.

SPS also provides free transportation to elementary students who live less than 1.5 miles from school and to middle school students who live less than 2.5 miles from school in areas where they must cross a barrier street. Click here to learn what qualifies as a barrier street.

* Chromebook return process - ALL students returning to Kickapoo OR another SPS High School should keep their Chromebook this summer. 
IF you are NOT returning to Kickapoo OR another SPS high school you should return your Chromebook to the library on the last day of school.

* Chromebook repair process - We have created a form for students to request a Chromebook so they can get theirs repaired. It is located in the Tribe Talk course in Canvas.
Please direct students to the link and have them complete the form. We will contact the students to come to the library to pick up or exchange their Chromebook. If they are unable to complete the form, please have a classmate or teacher complete the form for the student.
Let us know if you have any questions.

* Chromebooks - Students should bring a charged Chromebook to school each day. We are limited on the number of loaners we have and first priority goes to students needing repairs. Thank you.

* CANVAS HELP - Need help accessing and checking online learning with your student??? Click here for a list of resources from SPS. You can also click here for a guide for “how-to” items for parents. Please be sure to reach out with questions as we navigate online learning.

* Reminders:

  • Any students needing WiFi can request a Kajeet hotspot through our library. These are FREE!
  • Kickapoo will open our doors at 7 a.m. and first block begins at 7:30 a.m. every day Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday. 
  • Wednesday is late start for students so staff may participate in professional learning. Classes begin at 8 a.m. ALL BUSSES WILL RUN AT NORMAL TIMES.
  • Classes end at 2:30 p.m. every day.
  • All students should leave school/campus by 3 p.m. unless directly supervised by a teacher, coach, or sponsor.
  • Deliveries to school - Parents/guardians may deliver food and other school related items to school. We ask that you label and leave them on the table. Due to limited travel students may not be able to come immediately to pick them up. Please communicate with your student to let them know items have been dropped off for them. 
  • NO food deliveries from outside vendors. Thank you for helping to limit the exposures our secretaries and staff encounter.
  • ID badges - ALL students must have an ID every day. 
  • New students can go to 182 to receive an ID. 
  • Lost your ID? Go to 182 or ask your teacher to order you one.
  • Dress Code - Cover up and follow all dress code expectations.
  • Breakfast & Lunch are FREE for all students.

Congratulations to the 500+ seniors who graduated Friday evening! We are so proud of them and look forward to the people they will become! Once A Chief, Always A Chief. . .

May 21st - Final Transcript requests are due to the Counseling Center by Friday, May 21st. Final transcripts ARE NOT automatically sent by the high school unless you request it. This form was included in the Senior Mailing. If you did not get the form, stop by the Counseling office to obtain one. 

* YEARBOOK UPDATE - They arrived late last week and most seniors were able to pick them up.

SENIORS may pick up a pre-ordered yearbook from the main office between 8 a.m. & 2 p.m.

9th - 11th graders who pre-ordered a yearbook can pick them up during lunches on Monday, May 16 & Tuesday, May 17.

Happy Mother's Day to all the Kickapoo moms, grand moms, and bonus moms! 

It is GRADUATION WEEK! The Class of 2022 are down to single digits (4 school days) and our underclassmen are in the home stretch as well (13 school days). Help keep all of our students focused through the final weeks to finish off the 21 - 22 school year to the best of their ability!

* Senior (2022) Meeting information for students and parents 

* Important Dates for Seniors - Class of 2022:

May 9th - Senior A + Luncheon for A + Qualifiers. Held in the student center outside the Library during your lunch period. Pick up A + graduation cords, enjoy a nice lunch and enter to win door prizes!  Curious if you qualify… Go see Mrs. Harris in the A + Office! 

May 9th - 12th - Project Graduation Ticket Sales during lunch. Cost is $5 and includes a t-shirt and opportunity to win prizes (TVs, a variety of gift cards, and many other items)!

May 11th - Senior Recognition/Memories Assembly 8:15 am at KHS.

May 12th - Senior Final Exams & Last day of class for Seniors.

Seniors (8th semester) who have an A in their class (except Dual Credit/AP classes) do NOT have to take final exams on May 12th. Check with your teacher for more details.

May 12th - Turn in Chromebooks, chargers, bags, hotspots, and library books by the end of day. 
May 13th - Graduation Practice 9 a.m. KHS Gym. Bring Cap and Gown.

May 13th - Last chance to purchase Project Graduation Tickets will be after Graduation Practice.
May 13th - Graduation at Great Southern Bank Arena 4:30 p.m. Seniors should arrive and enter Hammons Student Center no later than 3:30 p.m. 

May 13th - Project Graduation will be held at Foster Rec Plex at Missouri State. Bus leaves Kickapoo HS parking lot at 10:30 p.m. and returns to KHS at 4 a.m.

May 21st - Final Transcript requests are due to the Counseling Center by Friday, May 21st. Final transcripts ARE NOT automatically sent by the high school unless you request it. This form was included in the Senior Mailing. If you did not get the form, stop by the Counseling office to obtain one. 

* YEARBOOK UPDATE - We just learned shipping for yearbooks has been delayed. They will arrive before May 25th. However, they will not arrive this week for seniors.

* Immunization Clinic at KHS - Kickapoo will hold a student immunization clinic on Tuesday, May 10th from 9:00 a.m. - Noon. Everything except the COVID vaccine will be available. 

Parents may print the parent permission form on the Kickapoo Nurses website or students can pick one up in the main office. Juniors who need to get their 2nd meningitis vaccine, required to be a senior, can receive that vaccine at this clinic. Permission forms need to be returned by Friday, May 6th.

The Class of 2022 are down to single digits (9 school days) and our underclassmen are in the home stretch as well (18 school days). Help keep all of our students focused through the final weeks to finish off the 21 - 22 school year to the best of their ability!

2021-2022 School Calendar 

* The last day of class for 9th - 11th graders is WEDNESDAYMay 25, 2022. It is a FULL DAY 7:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

* 4th Quarter grades - Our 6 week interim progress reports (IPR) were posted Friday. 

Remember you can access grades any time via eSchool Home Access from our website kickapoochiefs.org and find eSchool Home Access under Quick Links on the right side of the page. Teachers should be updating student grades in eSchool on a weekly basis.

* Reminder students earn credits to graduate every 9 weeks. Questions about grades or credits? Please contact your students teachers and/or counselor.

We also offer FREE tutoring with KHS teachers after school M - F until 3:45 p.m. in the library. Just show up ready to learn. 

* My robo calls to families of students with a D or F began Tuesday, April 12th and will continue each Tuesday for the rest of the quarter. Questions about grades? Check eSchool (directions above) and check with teachers. Thank you.

* Important Dates for Seniors - Class of 2022:

May 4th - EOCs for Seniors who may still need to complete them in Eng. II, Biology, Lib & Law, or Alg. I/II.

May 9th - Senior A + Luncheon for A + Qualifiers. Held in the student center outside the Library during your lunch period. Pick up A + graduation cords, enjoy a nice lunch and enter to win door prizes!  Curious if you qualify… Go see Mrs. Harris in the A + Office! 

May 9th - 12th - Project Graduation Ticket Sales during lunch. Cost is $5 and includes a t-shirt and opportunity to win prizes (TVs, a variety of gift cards, and many other items)!

May 11th - Senior Recognition/Memories Assembly 8:15 am at KHS.

May 12th - Senior Final Exams & Last day of class for Seniors.

Seniors (8th semester) who have an A in their class (except Dual Credit/AP classes) do NOT have to take final exams on May 12th. Check with your teacher for more details.

May 12th - Turn in Chromebooks, chargers, bags, hotspots, and library books by the end of day. 
May 13th - Graduation Practice 9 a.m. KHS Gym. Bring Cap and Gown.

May 13th - Last chance to purchase Project Graduation Tickets will be after Graduation Practice.
May 13th - Graduation at JQH 4:30 p.m. Seniors should arrive and enter Hammons Student Center no later than 3:30 p.m. 

May 13th - Project Graduation will be held at Foster Rec Plex at Missouri State. Bus leaves Kickapoo HS parking lot at 10:30 p.m. and returns to KHS at 4 a.m.

May 21stFinal Transcript requests are due to the Counseling Center by Friday, May 21st. Final transcripts ARE NOT automatically sent by the high school unless you request it. This form was included in the Senior Mailing. If you did not get the form, stop by the Counseling office to obtain one. 

Kickapoo Handbook 

* Juniors Class of 2023 - Attention current Juniors!! All incoming seniors must have received one dose of the Meningococcal vaccine after their 16th birthday in order to start school in the fall. Please bring documentation of your vaccine to the nurse by May 2 to ensure a smooth start to 2022-2023.

* Immunization Clinic at KHSKickapoo will hold a student immunization clinic on Tuesday, May 10th from 9:00 a.m. - Noon. Everything except the COVID vaccine will be available. 

Parents may print the parent permission form on the Kickapoo Nurses website or students can pick one up in the main office. Juniors who need to get their 2nd meningitis vaccine, required to be a senior, can receive that vaccine at this clinic. Permission forms need to be returned by Friday, May 6th.

KICKAPOO U/A+ Volunteerism Hours CHANGE. 

IMPORTANT!! - Current 9th - 11th graders must have ALL volunteer hours for the CURRENT 2021 - 22 school year uploaded on the Canvas course by May 1st. Any and all hours you accumulated THIS SCHOOL YEAR must be recorded by May 1. NO EXCEPTIONS. 

Starting next school year (22 - 23), hours will have to be logged MONTHLY, with a month grace period. 

If a student volunteers between May 1 - August 1 - those hours SHOULD be logged all through the summer months. They must be logged as soon as they are completed.

* Explore registration - Explore (summer school) registration for high school students began on Monday, March 7th. An electronic version of the High School Summer Catalog can be found here.

* June ACT Deadline to register for the June 11th ACT test is Friday, May 6th.

Final Exams for all 9th - 11th graders will take place on Wednesday, May 25th. 

EOC (end of course) exams for students currently taking Algebra I, some Alg. II students, Biology, English II, and Liberty & Law will be held on the following dates:

Algebra I - May 19 & 20.

Algebra IIH (if needed - ask teacher) - May 19 & 20.

Biology - May 19.

English II - May 19 & 20.

Liberty & Law or AP Government - May 23.

* Chromebook repair process - We have created a form for students to request a Chromebook so they can get theirs repaired. It is located in the Tribe Talk course in Canvas.
Please direct students to the link and have them complete the form. We will contact the students to come to the library to pick up or exchange their Chromebook. If they are unable to complete the form, please have a classmate or teacher complete the form for the student.
Let us know if you have any questions.

* Chromebooks - Students should bring a charged Chromebook to school each day. We are limited on the number of loaners we have and first priority goes to students needing repairs. Thank you.

* CANVAS HELP - Need help accessing and checking online learning with your student??? Click here for a list of resources from SPS. You can also click here for a guide for “how-to” items for parents. Please be sure to reach out with questions as we navigate online learning.

* Reminders:

  • Any students needing WiFi can request a Kajeet hotspot through our library. These are FREE!
  • Kickapoo will open our doors at 7 a.m. and first block begins at 7:30 a.m. every day Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday. 
  • Wednesday is late start for students so staff may participate in professional learning. Classes begin at 8 a.m. ALL BUSSES WILL RUN AT NORMAL TIMES.
  • Classes end at 2:30 p.m. every day.
  • All students should leave school/campus by 3 p.m. unless directly supervised by a teacher, coach, or sponsor.
  • Deliveries to school - Parents/guardians may deliver food and other school related items to school. We ask that you label and leave them on the table. Due to limited travel students may not be able to come immediately to pick them up. Please communicate with your student to let them know items have been dropped off for them. 
  • NO food deliveries from outside vendors. Thank you for helping to limit the exposures our secretaries and staff encounter.
  • ID badges - ALL students must have an ID every day. 
  • New students can go to 182 to receive an ID. 
  • Lost your ID? Go to 182 or ask your teacher to order you one.
  • Dress Code - Cover up and follow all dress code expectations.
  • Breakfast & Lunch are FREE for all students.
