Kickapoo announcements April 26 - 30, 2021

Hello Kickapoo Families,

We hope each of you had a restful weekend after the crazy weather this past week.

Can you believe we are down to the final 24 days of school? Our seniors only have 19 days remaining. Please continue to stay engaged, focused, and in attendance each day in order to finish the year on a positive note!

* 21 - 22 Bus Transportation Opt in or Out out by April 30th - 

Key points to know:

 

·    Transportation eligible families must opt in OR opt out of transportation for the 2021-2022 school year by APRIL 30.

·    Information will be used to plan routes for the upcoming school year and to determine start/end times for schools.

Message from SPS Transportation Department

A recently approved transportation expansion for the 2021-2022 school year will provide bus eligibility to an additional 3,000 high school students as well as students selected to attend four Choice Magnet Programs.

Included in the transportation expansion is a move to a three-tier transportation system.

·    Tier 1: High schools and selected elementary elementary schools.

·    Tier 2: Majority of elementary schools and other specialized programs.

·    Tier 3: All middle schools.

Moving from the current two-tier system to a three-tier system will result in start/end time changes for all schools. Preliminary school start/end times, to be finalized after the transportation registration window has closed, are here.

You can determine if you are transportation eligible for the 2021-2022 school year by using one of the three methods listed below:

1. Search transportation eligibility for your home address here.

2. Contact your child’s school. Locate the phone number here.

3. Contact the transportation department at 417-523-0500.

Action Required by Families Eligible for Transportation

Beginning today, families of students eligible for bus service must opt in OR opt out of bus service for the 2021-2022 school year by clicking on the button below. Prior to clicking on the button below, verify that you are transportation eligible (instructions are above) and have the student ID number for each of your transportation eligible students. If you do not have the necessary student ID number, your child's school can provide it to you.

The information obtained from the collection of opt in/opt out data is critical as we begin to plan routes for the upcoming school year and will be crucial in finalizing start/end times for each tier.

It is vital that we receive a response for each bus eligible student opting in OR opting out of bus services for the 2021-2022 school year by April 30. Individuals opting in after the deadline will not be guaranteed transportation on the first day of school.

* Last Day of school is Thursday, May 27th and Kickapoo students will be dismissed at 12:50 p.m.

KHS Tutoring -

 Option 1:

When: Mon/Tues/Wed/Th/Fri from 10 am - 1 pm

What: SPS Launch teachers assigned to KHS, Mr. Higgins, and KHS teachers available for tutoring.  

Who: VIRTUAL STUDENTS ONLY.

Where: In room 182 - check in through attendance office.

Option 2:

When: Mon/Tues/Wed/Th/F from 3 - 4 pm.

What: KHS teachers available for tutoring. 

Who: Any Kickapoo student seated OR virtual. 

Where: Library

* Graduation & Senior Prom information <-- click the link to read more. 

Prom tickets are $40 and will be on sale during lunches Monday, April 26 - Friday, April 30. Please pay all fines and fees with the Finance office prior to that week. Not sure if you owe fees/fines? Check the list on the windows of the commons or with the Financial office.

* Caps & Gowns and announcements - Herff Jones will be at Kickapoo on April 26, during lunch, to distribute announcements and cap and gowns to those who purchased them in advance.   

Herff Jones will also be bringing extra cap and gowns on the 26th for anyone still needing to purchase one.  They are $16.

* Last Day for Seniors - All seniors who have met all graduation requirements will have their last day of school on Thursday, May 20th. 

* Senior Finals - Thursday, May 20th during regular class periods.

Stay tuned for more details about graduation practice to be held the morning of May 21st.

* Class of 2022 (Juniors) Immunizations: If your child will be a senior this year, according to Missouri state law, in order to attend school ONLINE OR IN-PERSON, they must have documentation of a meningococcal vaccine after their 16th birthday. Please turn those in to our nurses prior to summer. If you have questions please contact our nurses at 523-8500.

* D & F phone calls - I will be making D/F phone calls each Tuesday. If you have questions about grades please contact your students teachers. These grades are accurate as of 6 a.m. Tuesday morning. Thank you.

Explore (aka Summer School) Registration is now open for all students! 

  • Session 1: June 7th  – June 30th
  • Session 2: July 7th – July 30th
  • The majority of high school summer school courses will be offered online through Launch
  • Some seated options will be at Central: Special Services, ELL, etc. – students must qualify for this option
  • If students want to make more room in their schedule for the regular year, taking summer school courses is a great option
  • If you have a student who has failed a required course/credit, we encourage them to recoup the credit in summer school

*  2021-2022 School CalendarThe calendar was approved by the SPS Board of Education with the first day of school to be Aug. 23, 2021 and the last day to be May 27, 2022.

* ATTENTION 9th graders who took Algebra I as an 8th grader: All freshmen that took an Algebra I course last year in 8th grade must be assessed this year. Because of COVID you were not tested last year in middle school. However, DESE has decided that we must test you this year. Students will test on:

Wednesday, April 28th in the student commons 1st and 2nd blocks
This is a state graduation requirement. The assessment does not affect your grades, it is scored as below basic, basic, proficient, or advanced and goes in your permanent record. Students planning to earn A+ for college must score proficient or advanced to meet the math requirement of the A+ program.

* Chromebook repair process - We have created a form for students to request a Chromebook so they can get theirs repaired.  It is located in the Tribe Talk course in Canvas.

Please direct students to the link and have them complete the form. We will contact the students to come to the library to pick up or exchange their Chromebook. If they are unable to complete the form, please have a classmate or teacher complete the form for the student.

* Chromebooks - Students should bring a charged Chromebook to school each day. We are limited on the number of loaners we have and first priority goes to students needing repairs. Thank you.

* Reminders:
  • Any students needing WiFi can request a Kajeet through our library.
  • Kickapoo will open our doors at 7:30 a.m. and first block begins at 7:50 a.m. every day Monday - Friday. All students must report directly to first block. 
  • Classes end at 2:50 p.m. every day.
  • Face masks must be worn at all times and may not contain inappropriate images, messages, etc.
  • Students should take home Chromebooks every day.
  • All students should leave school/campus by 3:05 p.m. unless directly supervised by a teacher, coach, or sponsor.
  • Attendance to athletic contests and school sponsored clubs will be limited to ensure capacity guidelines.
  • Deliveries to school - Parents/guardians may deliver food and other items to school. We ask that you label and leave them on the table. Due to limited travel students may not be able to come immediately to pick them up. Please communicate with your student to let them know items have been dropped off for them. 
  • NO food deliveries from outside vendors. Thank you for helping to limit the exposures our secretaries and staff encounter.
  • Visitors and Volunteers are limited to only those providing educational supports.
  • Back to SPS Return to Learning plan
  • ID badges, hats, and dress code - ALL students must have an ID every day. NO hats inside the building. Follow all dress code expectations.

* Student COVID-19 Vaccination clinic @ KHS - Tuesday, April 20th 8:30 - 10:30 - In collaboration with Springfield-Greene County Health Department and Jordan Valley Community Health Center, SPS will be hosting a COVID-19 vaccination clinic at Kickapoo on Tuesday, April 20th from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. 

We have paper copies of permission forms in the office.

* Graduation & Senior Prom information <-- click the link to read more. 

Prom tickets are $40 and will be on sale during lunches Monday, April 26 - Friday, April 30. Please pay all fines and fees with the Finance office prior to that week.

* Caps & Gowns and announcementsHerff Jones will be at Kickapoo on April 26, during lunch, to distribute announcements and cap and gowns to those who purchased them in advance .   

Herff Jones will also be bringing extra cap and gowns on the 26th for anyone still needing to purchase one.  They are $16.

* Last Day for Seniors - All seniors who have met all graduation requirements will have their last day of school on Thursday, May 20th. 

Stay tuned for more details about graduation practice to be held the morning of May 21st.

* Class of 2022 (Juniors) Immunizations: If your child will be a senior this year, according to Missouri state law, in order to attend school ONLINE OR IN-PERSON, they must have documentation of a meningococcal vaccine after their 16th birthday. Please turn those in to our nurses prior to summer. If you have questions please contact our nurses at 523-8500.

* D & F phone calls - I will be making D/F phone calls each Tuesday beginning this week. If you have questions about grades please contact your students teachers. These grades are accurate as of 6 a.m. Tuesday morning. Thank you.

Explore (aka Summer School) Registration is now open for all students! 

  • Session 1: June 7th  – June 30th
  • Session 2: July 7th – July 30th
  • The majority of high school summer school courses will be offered online through Launch
  • Some seated options will be at Central: Special Services, ELL, etc. – students must qualify for this option
  • If students want to make more room in their schedule for the regular year, taking summer school courses is a great option
  • If you have a student who has failed a required course/credit, we encourage them to recoup the credit in summer school
  • Online registration must be done at https://explorereg.sps.org/

*  2021-2022 School CalendarThe calendar was approved by the SPS Board of Education with the first day of school to be Aug. 23, 2021 and the last day to be May 27, 2022.

* Junior's Free ACT - ALL juniors will be signed up for the FREE district ACT given on Wednesday, April 21st at KHS.  All students will need to arrive with a charged Chromebook and appropriate calculator no later than 8 a.m. Room assignments are posted in the commons. We will have an ACT Bootcamp on Tuesday, April 13th from 8 a.m. - 11 a.m. to provide our juniors taking the ACT tricks, tips, and support for taking the ACT exam.

* FREE ASVAB for Juniors & Seniors - Tuesday, April 20th – sign up hereReport to the KHS Library from 8 am to 11:30 am.

* ATTENTION 9th graders who took Algebra I as an 8th grader: All freshmen that took an Algebra I course last year in 8th grade must be assessed this year. Because of COVID you were not tested last year in middle school. However, DESE has decided that we must test you this year. Students will test on:

Wednesday, April 28th in the student commons 1st and 2nd blocks
This is a state graduation requirement. The assessment does not affect your grades, it is scored as below basic, basic, proficient, or advanced and goes in your permanent record. Students planning to earn A+ for college must score proficient or advanced to meet the math requirement of the A+ program.

Seated students - your teachers will inform you of the date.

Virtual students - your teachers & Dr. Coffey will inform you of the date and time to take the exams AT KHS.

* Spring Final exams - Schedule for seated students will be coming soon. Thank you.

* Chromebook repair process - We have created a form for students to request a Chromebook so they can get theirs repaired.  It is located in the Tribe Talk course in Canvas.

Please direct students to the link and have them complete the form. We will contact the students to come to the library to pick up or exchange their Chromebook. If they are unable to complete the form, please have a classmate or teacher complete the form for the student.

* Chromebooks - Students should bring a charged Chromebook to school each day. We are limited on the number of loaners we have and first priority goes to students needing repairs. Thank you.

* Reminders:
  • Any students needing WiFi can request a Kajeet through our library.
  • Kickapoo will open our doors at 7:30 a.m. and first block begins at 7:50 a.m. every day Monday - Friday. All students must report directly to first block. 
  • Classes end at 2:50 p.m. every day.
  • Face masks must be worn at all times and may not contain inappropriate images, messages, etc.
  • Students should take home Chromebooks every day.
  • All students should leave school/campus by 3:05 p.m. unless directly supervised by a teacher, coach, or sponsor.
  • Attendance to athletic contests and school sponsored clubs will be limited to ensure capacity guidelines.
  • Deliveries to school - Parents/guardians may deliver food and other items to school. We ask that you label and leave them on the table. Due to limited travel students may not be able to come immediately to pick them up. Please communicate with your student to let them know items have been dropped off for them. 
  • NO food deliveries from outside vendors. Thank you for helping to limit the exposures our secretaries and staff encounter.
  • Visitors and Volunteers are limited to only those providing educational supports.
  • Back to SPS Return to Learning plan
  • ID badges, hats, and dress code - ALL students must have an ID every day. NO hats inside the building. Follow all dress code expectations.
