Kickapoo announcements Aug. 31 - Sept. 4, 2020

 Hello Kickapoo Families!

It was so great to have students back to Kickapoo this week! Everyone settled in well with the new procedures and expectations and we greatly appreciate our students and families for your patience, grace, and flexibility during this time of change. 

For those of you new to KHS, I update this blog each weekend and email it out to students and families via Canvas and those who have emails on file in eSchool. I have heard from a few stating they are not receiving the email. Please check your junk/spam folder. You may need to add my email address to your contacts as well. You can also follow/subscribe to this blog as well.

* Yearbooks are on sale now for $45 and can be purchased HERE. Price will increase Sept. 25th.

* Picture Day is coming soon! M/T students will be Tuesday, Sept. 15th & TR/Fri students will be Thursday, Sept. 17th. 

Online students may get pictures taken on their corresponding day. Student MUST enter at Door 17 for pictures. Students with last names A - K on 9/15 & last name L - Z on 9/17.

* Wednesday Virtual Day - Each teacher has scheduled a 15 minute time during each students scheduled class time in which they will be live via Zoom. This time will be to present new material and/or review previous material. If you have any questions please contact your teacher via email or Canvas as they are working from home on Wednesday's as well.

* Thank you for your patience with us as we navigate the hybrid model of learning. Remember teachers are with students M/T & Th/Fri. If you have questions please email or send a message via Canvas. Allow them up to 24 hours to respond as most of them only have one planning period each day. Thank you.

Below is information to help everyone get off to a great start. Please know this is not all inclusive information.
  • Any students needing WiFi can request a Kajeet through our library.
  • Kickapoo will open our doors at 7:30 a.m. and first block begins at 7:50 a.m. every day Monday - Friday. All students must report directly to first block. 
  • Classes end at 2:50 p.m. every day except Wednesday's end at 2:20 p.m.
  • 2020 - 2021 Bell Schedule - M/T/TR/Fr schedule is the same. Wednesday we follow a slightly different schedule and classes end at 2:20. Please review the link above for the specific class times.
  • Breakfast will be "Grab and Go" and taken directly to first block.
  • Face masks must be worn at all times and may not contain inappropriate images, messages, etc.
  • Parents - please complete a daily screening each morning with your student before going to school.
  • Students should not share supplies, food, or drinks. Please practice social distancing at all times.
  • Students should take home Chromebooks every day.
  • Students will have assigned seating in each class.
  • Students will have assigned seating, by class, at lunch in order for us to more effectively contact trace as needed. 
  • Breakfast & Lunch orders for virtual days. See HERE for more information.
  • Students should walk on the right side of the hallway.
  • All students should leave school/campus by 3:05 p.m. unless directly supervised by a teacher, coach, or sponsor.
  • Attendance to athletic contests and school sponsored clubs will be limited to ensure capacity guidelines.
  • News from the Nurses for ALL families & Student Health Inventory for FRESHMEN only.
  • A+ Agreement for Freshmen
  • Join PTSA today!
  • Parking permits - information will be shared with students during lunch this week. Permits must be purchased, but assigned parking will not begin until we are fully seated. This is subject to change as the year progresses.
  • Deliveries to school - Parents/guardians may deliver food and other items to school. We ask that you label and leave them on the table. Due to limited travel students may not be able to come immediately to pick them up. Please communicate with your student to let them know items have been dropped off for them. 
  • NO food deliveries from outside vendors. Thank you for helping to limit the exposures our secretaries and staff encounter.
  • Visitors and Volunteers are limited to only those providing educational supports.

Again, the items I have listed above are NOT all inclusive, but many of the frequently asked questions posed over the last few weeks.

Kickapoo 2020 Back to School Information

Hello Kickapoo Families!

We are excited to welcome back students next week. We know you may have many questions. We appreciate your patience, grace, and flexibility as we continue to work to finalize plans and details to make Kickapoo a welcoming and safe space for all students and staff. Many of the items are hyperlinks that have been shared with you. 

Below is information to help everyone get off to a great start. Please know this is not all inclusive information.
  • Student schedules should be live the afternoon of Wednesday, August 19th. 
  • Schedule changes will be limited to the following: Level changes, Summer School updates, or students haven't met prerequisites. Please understand our counseling team has been working night and day the last two weeks to schedule all of our virtual students and work to finalize seated schedules based on student requests. Thank you for your patience and understanding. 
  • NEW students to Springfield Public Schools can pick up Chromebooks Thursday, Aug. 20th between 8 a.m. & 7 p.m. or Friday, Aug. 21st between 8 a.m. & 3 p.m.
  • Any students needing WiFi can pick up a Kajeet Thursday, Aug. 20th between 8 a.m. & 7 p.m. or Friday, Aug. 21st between 8 a.m. & 3 p.m.
  • Any students needing a Garmin for Online PE/Fitness classes can pick them up  Thursday, Aug. 20th between 8 a.m. & 7 p.m. or Friday, Aug. 21st between 8 a.m. & 3 p.m.

  • Students will have assigned seating, by class, at lunch in order for us to more effectively contact trace as needed. 
  • Microwaves will not be available at this time.
  • Lunch selections will be limited to prepackaged and individually wrapped items.
  • Breakfast & Lunch orders for virtual days. See HERE for more information.
  • Students should walk on the right side of the hallway.
  • We will stagger dismissal for classes.
  • We will stagger dismissal at the end of the day as well. An announcement will be made at the end of the day the first week of class to explain.
