Feb. 2, 2015 Parent email

Hello Cherokee Families,

I’m not sure if I will ever get used to the weather in the Ozarks. However, I am looking forward to the 60’s on Wednesday. I hope you all are able to enjoy it as well. We all know winter is still here and could rear its ugly head any day.

Here are a few updates and reminders for you:

1) Daily Announcement and website – Remember you can stay closely connected with these listed events and even more each day by visiting our website HERE. Our Daily Announcements are updated Monday – Friday.

2) Also, you can follow us on Twitter by searching for @CherokeeSPS or you can receive text messages via Remind by sending a text to 81010 with the message @principalp

3) No school for students Feb. 13th and Feb. 16th. Also, Spring Break is March 7th – 16th

4) Our next Progress report will be coming home Feb. 12th. This will mark the 6th week of the 9 week quarter.

5) Winter Dance is Friday, Feb. 20th. More information coming soon.

7) Looking for a way to recognize Cherokee staff? We had a parent do this recently. Thanks so much!
Here are three ways you can recognize them:

1.)  Deadline is Feb. 16th - Nominate an English/reading teacher for the Turner Reading Award. (See attached PDF for more information).
2.)  Fill out an Employee Recognition Form HERE We had a parent submit one for a teacher. . .Thanks so much!!
8) Summer School – More information can be found at this LINK. Notable items on this page include:
A.   The flipbook for the summer school catalog now has links to the transportation maps.
B.   Under the “transportation section,” there is a list of summer school sites with links to the transportation maps.
C.   ELL information has been added to the flipbook catalog.
D.   The webpage now has a  “special services” section which includes information about ELL.
9) Yearbooks go on sale Feb. 1 and will be on sale until March 31st. Check our website for more information.
10) Counselor Appreciation Week is this week. Mr. Petree and Mrs. Jill Wilson do an amazing job as the Cherokee counselors. Take a minute to let them know how much they mean to you and your student.

11) Pick-A-Project – See description below and use this link to donate. Any and all support is greatly appreciated!

D DOODLER PENS-FROM 2-DIMENSIONAL DESIGNS TO 3-DIMENSIONAL STUDENT CREATED OBJECTS

Project Cost: $1000
Funded to Date: Be the first to support!
Online Until: March 8, 2015
Teacher Name: Amanda Jimenez
School: Cherokee Middle School
Grade Level: 6th, 7th, 8th- Design and Modeling Engineers

Description: Our Design and Modeling classroom learns the specifics of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional designs. Students use their learned knowledge to take 2-dimensional designs and create them in 3D using computer software. This class would like to take the next step in the design process by taking the 3D computer-generated design and constructing a 3D physical model utilizing the 3D pen. The 3D Pen is an engaging educational tool that allows the user to create real 3-dimensional objects; a pen that puts the power of a 3D printer in the palm of each student.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us at any time.
Have a great week and as always #GoIndians
