April 20, 2015 Announcements

Hello Cherokee Families,

We are quickly approaching the home stretch of the 14 – 15 school year. This time of the year can be very stressful for students and adults alike. Please make sure you are taking care of yourself, getting plenty of exercise and rest. Make sure to get outside and enjoy the weather when you can!

Update on MAP testing – 6th and 7th grade has finished, except for a few make-ups, and we are in the final week for 8th grade!
We did make two changes and you should have received my email last week. Just in case below are the two changes:
Change #1 = regular bell schedule for all students on April 21st.
Change #2 = Algebra I EOC will be held on April 23rd. It will be a regular bell schedule for everyone also.

Reminder to please schedule appointments around the testing schedule. Thank you.

Please note students may use their personal ear buds for testing. However, ALL CELL PHONES must be left in lockers during testing. Thank you for reminding our students to leave phones in their lockers during their testing session.

Here are a few updates and reminders for you:

1.     The last day of school is May 20th and it will be a 2-hour early release. This means Cherokee will dismiss at 12:45 on May 20th.
2.     Progress reports – our final progress report will be sent home Friday, April 24th. A reminder that report cards will be sent approximately 1 – 2 weeks after school is out.
3.     6th grade mixer – Friday, April 24th from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Cherokee gym. This is a FREE event for our 6th graders, BUT they must bring their ticket signed by a parent/guardian the night of the mixer. Tickets are being distributed at lunch today.
This is an opportunity for 6th grade Cherokee students and 6th grade Wilson’s Creek students to spend some time together before joining one another next year as 7th graders.
4.     PTSA – Cherokee Middle School PTSA is looking for parents who would like to get involved for the 2015-2016 school year. We only a few spots filled, and there are many more to go. PTSA is not just about Fundraising...we do Dances, Spirit Wear, Reflections, Community Awareness, Teacher Appreciation...and so much more! Please look over the various jobs and let us know if you have any questions.   You can find us on Facebook, or email Kelly Baldwin at kelly@outdoorsmanlawns.com.  You can also get contact information at the CMS office.

6.     Artworks - The Artworks program is so much fun they don’t know they’re learning!
a.     Artworks is designed to foster an appreciation of art for students entering grades 3-8 for the 2015-2016 school year. Artwork introduces students to a variety of materials and artistic concepts to evoke their curiosity and to hone their natural creativity. Students work with professional artists who teach students in a fun, relaxed environment where they can express their creativity and gain self-confidence.

b.     Enroll at the Summer School office located in the Kraft Administrative Center, 1359 E. St. Louis St. beginning at 9 a.m. on March 2.  The $30 supply fee is due at the time of registration.  Students receiving free/reduced lunch during the regular school year can apply for a fee waiver.

c.      There are two Artwork sessions.  The first is June 15-26 and the second is July 6-17.  A morning section, 8:30 – 10 a.m., and an afternoon section, 12:30 – 2 p.m. is offered during each session.  Students may attend both sessions but only one section in each session.  Artwork classes will be held at Bingham Elementary, 2126 E. Cherry St.
