We have flipped the page to October and it is beginning to look more like Fall.
As we enter the final three weeks of the first quarter we encourage you to continue to stay connected with the learning happening in each of your child's classrooms. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to our teachers with any questions or concerns.

- Carline - IMPORTANT reminders:
- Do NOT pick up your student on Plainview Avenue. This is very dangerous. If you use a side street please don’t block anyone’s driveway.
- Remind your student to USE THE CROSSWALK when dropping them off. They should NOT cross Plainview otherwise. The same goes for our parking lot - USE the Crosswalk.
- Please pull as far forward as possible before dropping off and picking up students. Carline drop off begins at sign #1. We have two exits to Plainview and both have east and west turns available. Thank you for using both exits.
- Please be aware of students walking and riding bikes. Students should use the crosswalk and sidewalk at all times.
- Do not use the west/athletic parking area for drop off or pick up during school hours as this is where our busses pick up and drop off. Use it for exiting only. Thank you.
- IF you need additional time with your student(s) please pull into a parking spot so everyone else can get in and out in a timely fashion.
- Bell Schedules for all year - We use a variety of bell schedules throughout the school year to accommodate music and sports assemblies, character ed, Tribe Time, and other occasions. This LINK will take you to a folder with all of the schedules and the dates we will use them. Please pay special attention as class and lunch times vary for each schedule.

- Sports Schedules - These are all posted on our website http://cherokee.spsk12.org/pages/Cherokee_Middle_School
These games begin at 5:30 p.m. All students MUST have a ride to pick them up NO LATER than 15 minutes after the game ends or they will NOT be allowed to attend the next game. Most volleyball games will be over by 7 p.m. and football around 8:30 p.m. Mr. Schreiner and Dr. Powers will also inform students attending without a parent if they need rides earlier. Thank you for picking up your children in a timely manner.
IF a student attends games without a parent they must remain in the stands during the game. They may go to the restroom and concession stand between games and during halftime only.
- PTSA Spirit Wear - Was delivered last week. We do have a few items in the office to deliver to absent students. If this is you please visit the office as soon as possible to pick up.
- JOIN PTSA - Please consider joining. We have two options - individual/family memberships or Business memberships. Thank you for your support of our staff and students!

- IGNITE - This LINK provides information to help guide you through the process, provide info on optional insurance and how to connect to Canvas.
- PTSA meeting - Our next meeting is Tuesday, Oct. 17th at 7:30 a.m. in the library. Come join us and learn more about Cherokee and what’s going on with PTSA.
If you want to hear from Dr. Powers and our counselors this is a great opportunity for that 1 on 1 visit.
- Staff Recognition - We have an amazing team here at Cherokee. Thank you to families who have taken time to recognize our team this year! You have no idea how much this means to our teachers and staff. You can complete an Employee Recognition Form here to show them your appreciation. No recognition is too small. Thank you for taking the time to recognize and celebrate our staff!
- School Picture day - Friday, Oct. 6th. Flyers were sent home with students Friday. Order forms must be turned in to the photographer on picture day!

13) Parent Teacher conference week - We will host parent teacher conferences on Monday, Oct. 23rd from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Thursday, Oct. 26th from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Teachers will send out information on how and when to sign up soon. Thank you.
14) Flu Shot clinic - Cherokee will be providing flu shots/mist on Nov. 15th. We will have more information as we get closer to the date, but we wanted everyone to be aware of this opportunity.
15) Progress reports - The 6 week progress report is now available.
16) Girls Basketball - Will have tryouts Monday, Oct. 16th - Wednesday, Oct. 18th from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m..
Informational meetings for 7th & 8th grade girls interested in trying out will be held Oct. 2nd and 9th at 7:30 a.m. in the small gym.
All students MUST have a current physical on file dated Feb. 2017 through Oct. 16 in order to tryout.

17) Wrestling - Will begin Monday, Oct. 16th from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
All 7th and 8th graders interested in wrestling MUST have a current physical (Feb. 2017 through Oct. 16th) on file to participate. Pick up a flyer from the main office for more information.
18) No School for students - Monday, Oct. 16th. Teacher professional learning and work day.
19) First quarter ends - Friday, Oct. 13th and Report cards will be available online by Friday, Oct. 20th.
20) Chromebook Screens - A reminder to not put Chromebooks in backpacks. We saw approximately 15 - 20 broken/cracked screens this last week due to the weight/pressure of items in the backpacks being on top of the Chromebooks.
21) Book Fair - The Book Fair is coming soon! October 23 – October 27 in Cherokee library.

22) IGNiTE survey - As part of the IGNiTE teaching and learning initiative, the school district partnered with BrightBytes, an educational research and analytics organization that will help us learn more about our schools’ technology use for student learning. The surveys should take approximately 15 minutes to complete and will be open through October 13.

23) Reflections - The theme is “Within Reach” and entries much be turned in by Oct. 30th to the 7th grade conference room.
Categories include: Dance, Music, Art, Photography, and Writing.
Official Rules and Entry form coming soon.
