Kickapoo announcements Feb. 21 - 25, 2022

Hello Kickapoo families,

Have a wonderful three-day weekend and enjoy the Spring temps on Sunday and Monday! Then buckle up for another rollercoaster weather week in the Ozarks.

Reminder, these announcements include several important items. However, they are not all inclusive. Please remember to check our social media AND website for the most up to date information about clubs, athletics, and other important announcements.

You can find our Daily Announcements on our website and linked HERE. Please check these frequently as they are updated daily with club info, meeting dates, upcoming events, etc. . . .

* Progress reports - were posted at the end of the day Friday, Feb. 18th. The last day of third quarter is Thursday, March 10th.

You can access grades any time via eSchool Home Access from our website kickapoochiefs.org and find eSchool Home Access under Quick Links on the right side of the page. Teachers should be updating student grades in eSchool on a weekly basis.

* Reminder students earn credits to graduate every 9 weeks. Questions about grades or credits please contact your students teachers and/or counselor.

* Students with 2 or more F's in core classes will be assigned to IPLT (Intensive Personalized Learning Time) beginning Friday, Feb. 25th and it lasts until Thursday, March 10th. This intervention is set up to help students succeed during school hours. 

We also offer FREE tutoring with KHS teachers after school M - F until 3:45 p.m. in the library. Just show up ready to learn. 

* My robo calls to families of students with a D or F started on Tuesday, Feb. 1st and will continue each Tuesday for the quarter. Questions about grades? Check eSchool (directions above) and check with teachers. Thank you.

* KHS Seniors Are Going Places! - We have a Seniors are Going Places Wall outside the counseling center that we use to display what decisions Seniors have made for future plans.

* Project Graduation meetingSenior parents – if you are interested in helping with Project Graduation please plan to attend the next meeting on Monday February 21st at 6:15 p.m. in the Library classroom. 

Please park and enter thru door 17 on the west side of the building.

* No School Monday, Feb. 21st (Presidents' Day).

* No School for Spring Break - Friday, March 11 - Sunday, March 20.

* 4th quarter begins Monday, March 21st.

2021-2022 School Calendar: The last day of class is tentatively scheduled to be May 25, 2022. Subject to change due to inclement weather.

* Class of 2022 Graduation will be Friday, May 13, 2022 at 4:30 p.m. at JQH Arena.

Kickapoo Handbook 

* Leadership Springfield Academy Class - The applications for the Leadership Academy Class 33 have officially launched! Participation is now open to all sophomores and juniors to apply to be in this program during their junior or senior year.

The applications are to be completed online no later than 11:59pm on Monday, March 28. You may find a link to the applications here: https://leadershipspringfield.org/forms/leadership-academy-class-33-application/.

Please encourage students to apply for this amazing opportunity. If they have questions they can contact Dr. Powers or Mr. Billy. Thank you!

*Fees & Fines - must be paid prior to purchasing dance tickets. This includes Courtwarming for Feb. 25 and Senior Prom on April 29. Fees may be paid with Mrs. Miller in the Financial office.

* Dances - Students MUST BE IN ATTENDANCE ALL day in order to attend the dance on Friday, Feb. 25th or prom on Friday, April 29th.

IF we are not in school on Friday, Feb. 25th the dance will be rescheduled. Stay tuned! 

* Courtwarming Assembly - Thursday, Feb. 24th. IF we don't have school Thursday we will hold the assembly on Friday.

First Floor Assembly:     8:50 – 9:40

Second Floor Assembly: 9:55 – 10:45

3rd Block               10:50 – 12:50

4th Block               12:55 – 2:30

* Tryout Season - Please check our website and the daily announcements regarding tryouts for the 22 - 23 school year.

* Explore registration - Explore (summer school) registration for high school students begins on March 7th. Students were to receive an Explore brochure during 2nd block today. An electronic version of the High School Summer Catalog can be found here.

* Nominate our LibrariansThe Foundation for SPS is taking nominations for our annual Linda Luke Librarian of the Year!

This award will recognize an outstanding librarian or a librarian team that has:

  • Initiative to orchestrate an innovative project at the building level
  • Support for the teaching and learning process by providing a library climate that encourages students and teachers to maximize available resources and technology
  • An attitude that emanates caring and concern
  • A deep commitment to his/her work

*Yearbooks are for sale now at jostens.com for $50. We do NOT purchase extras so you must pre-order. We prefer you to buy online at jostens.com (search Kickapoo High School) but we will accept cash or check in room 201. 

* 2022 - 2023 SPS School Calendar
* Chromebook repair process - We have created a form for students to request a Chromebook so they can get theirs repaired. It is located in the Tribe Talk course in Canvas.
Please direct students to the link and have them complete the form. We will contact the students to come to the library to pick up or exchange their Chromebook. If they are unable to complete the form, please have a classmate or teacher complete the form for the student.
Let us know if you have any questions.

* Chromebooks - Students should bring a charged Chromebook to school each day. We are limited on the number of loaners we have and first priority goes to students needing repairs. Thank you.

* CANVAS HELP - Need help accessing and checking online learning with your student??? Click here for a list of resources from SPS. You can also click here for a guide for “how-to” items for parents. Please be sure to reach out with questions as we navigate online learning.

* Reminders:

  • Any students needing WiFi can request a Kajeet hotspot through our library. These are FREE!
  • Kickapoo will open our doors at 7 a.m. and first block begins at 7:30 a.m. every day Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday. 
  • Wednesday is late start for students so staff may participate in professional learning. Classes begin at 8 a.m. ALL BUSSES WILL RUN AT NORMAL TIMES.
  • Classes end at 2:30 p.m. every day.
  • All students should leave school/campus by 3 p.m. unless directly supervised by a teacher, coach, or sponsor.
  • Deliveries to school - Parents/guardians may deliver food and other school related items to school. We ask that you label and leave them on the table. Due to limited travel students may not be able to come immediately to pick them up. Please communicate with your student to let them know items have been dropped off for them. 
  • NO food deliveries from outside vendors. Thank you for helping to limit the exposures our secretaries and staff encounter.
  • ID badges - ALL students must have an ID every day. 
  • New students can go to 182 to receive an ID. 
  • Lost your ID? Go to 182 or ask your teacher to order you one.
  • Dress Code - Cover up and follow all dress code expectations.
  • Breakfast & Lunch are FREE for all students.
