Classes begin on Tuesday, Jan. 4th at 7:30 a.m. Students please check eSchool for your new class schedule prior to Tuesday morning.
KHS will be open at 7 a.m. and students will remain in the Commons/Cafeteria until 7:20 a.m.

Dear SPS parent or guardian:
Throughout the pandemic, Springfield Public Schools has focused on creating a school environment that protects the safety and well-being of students and staff. During the past six months, our efforts have focused on practices that contribute to maintaining in-person learning five days a week. These strategies were outlined in the 2021-2022 Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan.
At the time it was published, we committed to reviewing the plan after six months and considering what, if any, modifications are necessary. We recently completed that review and have updated the plan, which you may view here.
As promised throughout the fall, our intention has been to remove the masking mandate in January. All students ages 5-18 have now had the opportunity to be fully vaccinated. When students return Jan. 4, wearing masks will be optional. Masks will be strongly recommended while in district facilities. Due to a federal mandate, masks must continue to be worn at all times while riding public transportation, including school buses and other district-provided transportation.
The Missouri Attorney General recently issued a cease and desist letter that placed school districts and public health officials in a very difficult situation, limiting our ability to respond during a pandemic. Without clarification from a court regarding the Attorney General's recent directives, SPS has no other option but to modify our COVID-19 quarantine protocols. Updates to the district's plan include the following:
Parents or guardians should continue to monitor students regularly for COVID-19 symptoms.
Students and staff exhibiting symptoms of any illness must stay home until symptoms resolve and/or they are cleared by a medical provider to return. For more information on the related policy and procedures, view the student handbook.
COVID-positive students will continue to be excluded from school and school activities for 10 days.
Students who are identified as direct contacts of a COVID-positive individual will be notified; however, they will not be excluded from school unless they are symptomatic.
SPS will continue to report weekly COVID-19 cases at sps.org/covidstats. However, daily public notifications of COVID cases will end.
SPS will continue to monitor health conditions in schools and the community and will make modifications to its COVID-19 protocols as warranted.

* Progress reports - You can access grades any time via eSchool Home Access from our website kickapoochiefs.org and find eSchool Home Access under Quick Links on the right side of the page. Teachers should be updating student grades in eSchool on a weekly basis.
* Reminder students earn credits to graduate every 9 weeks. Questions about grades or credits please contact your students teachers and/or counselor.
* Students with 2 or more F's in core classes will be assigned to IPLT (Intensive Personalized Learning Time) and it lasts until the next progress report. This intervention is set up to help students succeed during school hours.
We also offer FREE tutoring with KHS teachers after school M - F until 3:45 p.m. in the library. Just show up ready to learn.
* My robo calls to families of students with a D or F will be sent out on Tuesday evenings beginning in 2 - 3 weeks.

* Cap and Gown/Announcement Orders - The easiest way to order is online at highschool.herffjones.com any time you are able. The sooner the better.
You can put in Kickapoo High School and it will take you to the page. The second page has the Group Package D which is the basic cap, gown and tassel for $14.75.
Students - Cap and Gown instructions for ordering are now available on our Canvas Page under Kickapoo Counseling Commons. The last picture icon is Herff Jones.

* KHS Seniors Are Going Places! - We have a Seniors are Going Places Wall outside the counseling center that we use to display what decisions Seniors have made for future plans.

* 2021-2022 School Calendar: The last day of class is scheduled to be May 27, 2022.
*Yearbooks are for sale now at jostens.com for $50. We do NOT purchase extras so you must pre-order. We prefer you to buy online but we will accept cash or check in room 201.
* FREE TUTORING - This free tutoring is offered after school, Monday - Friday from 2:45 - 3:45, in the Kickapoo library with KHS teachers from the math, science, English, and special education department available.
| * 2022 - 2023 SPS School Calendar Please direct students to the link and have them complete the form. We will contact the students to come to the library to pick up or exchange their Chromebook. If they are unable to complete the form, please have a classmate or teacher complete the form for the student. Let us know if you have any questions. * Chromebooks - Students should bring a charged Chromebook to school each day. * Reminders:
- Any students needing WiFi can request a Kajeet hotspot through our library. These are FREE!
- Kickapoo will open our doors at 7 a.m. and first block begins at 7:30 a.m. every day Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday.
- Wednesday is late start for students so staff may participate in professional learning. Classes begin at 8 a.m. ALL BUSSES WILL RUN AT NORMAL TIMES.
- Classes end at 2:30 p.m. every day.
- All students should leave school/campus by 3 p.m. unless directly supervised by a teacher, coach, or sponsor.
- Deliveries to school - Parents/guardians may deliver food and other items to school. We ask that you label and leave them on the table. Due to limited travel students may not be able to come immediately to pick them up. Please communicate with your student to let them know items have been dropped off for them.
- NO food deliveries from outside vendors. Thank you for helping to limit the exposures our secretaries and staff encounter.
- ID badges - ALL students must have an ID every day.
- New students can go to 182 to receive an ID.
- Lost your ID? Go to 182 or ask your teacher to order you one.
- Dress Code - Cover up and follow all dress code expectations.
- Breakfast & Lunch are FREE for all students.
